think it was doing better than anticipated but still wasn’t making money. maybe there was potential for it

i seem to remember Vince saying he was putting up a lot of his own money to let the league run for a few years, even if it wasn’t profitable, but then immediately noped out

It was always going to be running at a deficit for the first 2 or 3 years.

But yeah pandemic hit and Vince just gave up right away, sold it to The Rock and some other investors who I believe plan to bring it back in a few years.

The pandemic destroyed their revenue. If I'm not mistaken, they were pretty much giving away TV rights for the first few years (which is why you could watch games on ESPN and Fox) and were relying on the revenue generated by the stadiums/merchandise.

No fans at the games meant a huge chunk of revenue was gone, so yeah...

Bet that was just nonsense from the Falcons camp, in hopes it would urge a team to offer a first. Guess we will never know. If they really got offered and turned down a first, right before the draft, their new GM should already be canned.
