I don't know what the big deal is tbh. I can see it being entirely possible they already decided on Fields based on tape, and that seeing Mac in person is the only chance to change their minds so that's where they're going.

it would be really weird to give up 2 future first round picks long before anyone in your organization had seen fields throw a football (scout or whatever). its not like they had to make this trade now. if they liked fields they could have waited until march 31st, even if it's just your scouts checking him out to conceal your interest, just to make sure of his talent and then make the trade afterwards

on the flip side their scouts have already seen jones & lance throw and workout this month. every team in the league has watched jones & lance, even teams that don't need a qb, whether it be coaches, gms, or scouts. nobody has watched fields in person yet... even in the championship game 'cause of covid rules

I mean they don't have to have decided yet, they just wanted to guarantee that they can get one of them. Could see franchise potential between any of the top 5 QBs and now they know for sure they'll be able to grab one.

think about it. when was the last time a team moved up in the draft a month before the draft took place? i can't think of it ever. teams want to know who they're taking when they're giving away their entire future.

they better know. if i was a niners fan i'd be pissed if they didn't lol. that would tell me the three final guys left are all about equal and it doesn't matter which one i took... in which case why give up 2 first round picks and take the 4th or 5th qb instead lol
