I think it's reasonable that they hadn't 100% made a decision yet between Fields/Jones/Lance and just wanted to make sure that they didn't get jumped by anyone else.

Doesn't Kyle S NOT want a mobile QB in his system? I highly doubt they take Trey Lance. I'd bet on Mac/Fields long before Lance.

No one explicitly wants a non mobile QB, it just might not he something they're looking for in their offensive scheme.

NDSU runs an offense that's pretty similar to Shanahan's system and performed very well in it, whereas Fields or Jones there's justifiable questions about how well they could adapt. Other then not wanting to cheer for a man named McCorkle that's the primary reason most Niners fans would prefer Lance.

The standing theory of holding on to Jimmy for a year to let a rookie QB develop also plays into taking Trey Lance, since he's much rawer then any of the other top prospects.

The knock with Lance is that he's had 288 career throwing attempts (193 completions). In comparison Lamar had 1086 college attempts (619 completions) and people wanted him to become a wide receiver... and to this day he still has throwing concerns.

Personally I think Lance is the riskiest pick in the draft. Could he hit and become the next Josh Allen, sure. But McCorkle could become the next Drew Brees too. There's more upside with Big Sexy than people seem to want to hear about and his floor is probably Baker

This is the thing for me. There is no chance they traded that much to move up and take such a gamble. He could end up being great, but wagering that much on a guy who has hardly played, and when he did it was against horrible competition, seems beyond ridiculous. I'd love to see how it plays out if I'm wrong, but I'd give Lance less than 10% chance of actually going 3rd. 49ers could easily set their franchise back many years by taking him and it not working out.

I have to also believe it is very likely Jimmy G gets traded. QBs just rarely sit anymore. Kyle wants to get the guy heavily involved ASAP.

honestly niners fans should ask themselves what makes trey lance a better prospect than jordan love, who went 26th overall. both are 3 star recruits coming out of high school and both played in lower tier college football which means we know almost jack shit about their playing ability against nfl caliber players

Every time I look at local sports right now, all I feel is pain. McCorkle's pro day was so absolutely fucking horrible, I just can't comprehend how he's still in the discussion. Especially after how good Fields pro day was.

By the time I get there in July hopefully the wave of depression from a McCorkle pick will have calmed down.

i'm hoping all this is because shanahan was told by saleh that the jets were taking fields and the niners knew they were taking wilson all along so they've been talking about two qbs who aren't fields. watching celeras explode losing every qb he wanted would be funny

i dont even think it would be a mistake if the jets drafted fields. he's been considered a 5 star recruit forever
