Publisher Dotemu and developer Tribute Games in partnership with Nickelodeon today announced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge for PC and consoles, a classically informed side scrolling beat-em-up directly inspired by classic TMNT games like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles In Time.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge reunites Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, and Donatello to kick shell in a beautifully realized pixel art world invoking the turtles’ classic 1987 design. Today’s announcement trailer perfectly encapsulates the Heroes in a Half-Shell’s rambunctious attitude as they leap and bash their way across Manhattan to a thumping rendition of their signature anthem belted out by Faith No More’s Mike Patton.

With Bebop and Rocksteady amassing gizmos to support Krang and Shredder’s latest scheme, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge finds the turtles battling through a breathless tour of iconic TMNT locations to thwart their nemeses’ most diabolical plan yet. Armed with shell-shocking new abilities built on a foundation of classic brawling mechanics, the gang are in for an exhilarating, Foot Clan-stomping romp leading them through the sewers and bustling boroughs of New York City all the way to Dimension X.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge joins two retro gaming experts: Dotemu, the developer and publisher known for faithful ports as well as impeccable remakes and continuations of beloved gaming series including Streets of Rage 4, the smash hit nominated for Best Action game at The Game Awards 2020, as well as the upcoming Windjammers 2 and highly lauded Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap; and Tribute Games, the studio behind retro-themed original IPs including Panzer Paladin, Flinthook and Mercenary Kings which embody the spirit of classic games in new experiences. Tribute Games also houses key talent behind the acclaimed Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game beat-em-up and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game released for Game Boy Advance in 2007.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge features groundbreaking gameplay rooted in timeless classic brawling mechanics, brought to you by the beat ’em up experts at Dotemu (Streets of Rage 4) and Tribute Games. Bash your way through gorgeous pixel art environments and slay tons of hellacious enemies with your favorite Turtle, each with his own skills and moves - making each run unique! Choose a fighter, use radical combos to defeat your opponents and experience intense combats loaded with breathtaking action and outrageous ninja abilities. Stay sharp as you face off against Shredder and his faithful Foot Clan alone, or grab your best buds and play with up to four players simultaneously!

With Bebop and Rocksteady assaulting Channel 6 and stealing super gnarly devices to support Krang and Shredder’s latest twisted plan, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge sees the Turtles battling across a righteous range of timeless TMNT locations. From Manhattan and Coney Island, to city rooftops and dank sewers, help the fearsome foursome trounce Foot Soldiers, Triceraton Warriors, and Rock Troops all the way to Dimension X!

Enjoy stunning full-color pixel art graphics and a vintage TMNT vibe that will rock you straight back to the awesome 80s. Every character, vehicle, weapon, item, and background is directly inspired by the 1987 TV show, making you feel like you hopped into the television -- with a dope mix of killer humor and action-packed adventures!

    ● Gnarly game design takes you back to the ’80s

Looks cool and anything that harkens back to classic Konami beat-em-ups is great, but I wish they'd innovate more with the move set instead of "mash A for combo". The turtles have enough moves across all of the medium where you could realistically have quite a big move list for each one.

You’d be pretty amazed with some of the more simple games with 1 button attacks can get. Final Fight 1 back then in the arcade had that spin combo cancel so you can continue attacking with the first attack thus not forcing recovery frames on you and whatnot. On the other end, the Konami turtles games had pretty good movesets like 3 different jump attacks, and even the dash attacks, so it isn’t too bad, there’s depth, but simple depth can also be learning and dealing with enemy behavior etc.

I do agree with you tho, i love me some Streets of Rage, and the unique movesets added to a lot of fun. This game is looking to be a banger for a couple hours of entertainment.

Yeah I'll be picking this one up, fo'sho. I just want a fat moveset. Hell, even the old Kunio games on the NES had a pretty big roster of moves you could do with nothing but the ol' Dpad.

I just don't want the genre to worship at the shrine of "Turtles in Time". That game is amazing, but it could be improved upon! We shouldn't be satisfied just with paying a great homage to it. Make the genre even better. The turtles have a lot of meat on the bone, no pun intended.

Shit man, i’ll just be happy with the devs/publisher not pulling stupid shit on the pc version like Denuvo DRM or Epic game store exclusivity forcing me to get a console version lol.

I'm stoked. I'm tired of the newer jacked up versions of the turtles that's been used in recent games/media. I love me some 90's konami style art. This could've looked way worse. See: recent battletoads. This is easy day 1.

This game desperately needs upgradeable or purchasable moves. If its a moveset 6 attacks deep, its going to run dry very, very quickly.

Hopefully they (and other beat-em-ups) take inspiration from the Kunio series and include a large pool of moves that you grow into.
