ooh i like it when we have a focused global rollout of new nuclear energy generation
Lmao @ carbon tax having majority liberal support. This year we have seen how political narratives can be won and lost based on the gas price. Raising it intentionally in a way that is obviously tied to you is basically political suicide.
Should just pass a law saying that if we have to shut the government down due to the "fiscal cliff" then a x cents/ton carbon tax will automatically go into effect to earn some revenue and help balance the budget. Then when Republicans inevitably push us to the cliff, pin the carbon tax on them.
I love how when shown proper evidence Spicy immediately makes my point for me. You can't change the average voters mind on policy. Most are simply too uneducated and too ignorant to change their positions. Especially in the world we live in where changing your mind is demonized.

That pushing far left policies won't win elections and any legislation gained will be snuffed out immediately when swing voters vote in the right.

So continue to watch the Dems ratchet to the right after they fail to push back left after taking back X or Y because it's not popular enough? What's the endgame there again? Let's follow this logic train.
Do we just then abandon minorities because they aren't popular enough? Abortion rights? Prison reform? Affordable medical care for everyone? This is the most centrist argument I think I have seen pushed. "Don't rock the boat, it's not popular."
More like wait for voting demographics to shift and don't make it impossible to win when that happens becasue voting rights have been stripped away becasue you refuse to punt.

Wait and vote the equivalent of a blank check, and hope people change their position is really the answer you are going with? Just wait it out?
The notion that we will have no voting rights if Republicans win is also overblown. They are undermining or suppressing them in their favor. Which is nothing new at all.
retarded uneducated idealism vs jaded reality
who will win
Democracy will never know its ass from its elbow because democracy gives everyone a vote no matter how unqualified they are to be making decisions, or selecting the right person to be making decisions.
Even in one of the most enlightened periods of history (in terms of how much the culture treasured education), in the birthplace of democracy, Plato argued for a benevolent totalitarian rule by the Philosopher-King because he just didn't trust the common person to ever be capable of making educated decisions.
its nice to see plato agrees with me
Follow up to Biden's student loan policy initiative. Dems passed the Joint Consolidation Loan Separation Act to address instances where married spouses have consolidated loans. Not getting lots of attention.

The House passed their version, the bi-partisan Cheney-Lofgren bill, of an Electoral Count Act reform law. This version at a glance seems better than the Senate version in terms of limiting the ways governors can act in the elector process. Seems unlikely it would get past a Republican gerrymander.

Can call it that, but I've yet to see a motivating reason. All of the "lesser of evils" or "that's just reality" or "my voting rights" or "but muh supreme court" is not addressing and fundamental level of reasoning.
Reducing it down to this "pragmatic democracy and pray for some day" approach is even more nonsensical. Getting into an argument about the flaws of ancient Greek philosophy doesn't bring substance to the original point of discussion.
