I never understood that thought process, wanting to stay somewhere shit when you have the resources to leave. The SECOND i could get out of Oklahoma i left. All my friends and family that still live there... well ended up how i expected my life to go if I didn't leave. That said, I've never been a family person, so i guess whatever bond that keeps people living like shit I don't have.

It's preferences man. My grandma is from DR, didn't move here til she was an adult, but the second she could she did for the opportunity and never looked back. Even now she says she'll never go back, and that she loves her home country, but it's shit compared to america. The people can be rude at best, crime is rampant and nobody does anything about the worst of it, and overall life is just better not living there. Lots of people will fly their original flag for pride, but actually living there when you can live somewhere materially better? I don't blame them in the least.

How sure are you guys that AOC hasn't already sent money to try and help her grandma but due to other factors, work just hasn't been able to start or her grandma herself has refused help? Or that her money isn't already tied up helping other family members?

If she has the resources to help but didn't then yea, she's kinda shit though at the same time, she shouldn't have to if aid was properly given.

Was also considering the possibility her grandma wasn't telling her that her house went to shit. Like, there are some people too stupid prideful to accept help, especially from family, even when they desperately need it.
