Republicans are the only ones that vote to default on our debt.

Filibuster is a tool for dems, because they like to actually change shit. GoP just wants lower taxes and other shit they can pass different ways, they give zero fucks about any reform of helping anyone

You're fooling yourself if you think the GOP won't do shit like a national abortion ban if you remove the filibuster. The only reason you don't see pushes for shit like that now is that doing so is pointless because of the filibuster and will do nothing but generate bad press for them.

They won't do a national abortion ban because if abortion is banned they won't have it as a issue to rile their base up with. They have 0 interest in fully implementing it.

Like others have said, no way the would do it because it wins them elections in a ton of states. Plus then we would just go back into "states rights" and have all the blue states allowing exemptions and shit to negate the national ban....maybe. Dems aren't very creative so who knows if they could figure out creative ways to circumvent a law like that

it doesn't have to be something so extreme though, mitch warned you all before the nuclear option and hes warned you again on this a few months ago, heed it if you will or whatever, but i promise whatever rules you change here will be used against you when the pendulum swings back.

there may be a middle ground between doing nothing and altering a 215 year old Congressional rule

you guys really do have the shortest memories. the Dems hitting the nuclear option on presidential appointments directly and immediately led us to Trump's atrocious SCOTUS picks and his worst cabinet picks. one can only wonder at the hell Republicans would bring about when they regain Congress and they lack the constraints of the filibuster.

Who has the short memory? The abolishing of the filibuster for appointments was done because Republicans were refusing to seat anybody, for any reason.

    but in earnestness

Republicans under Obama were being historically obstructionist (though the majority of his judicial and cabinet appointments got approved / didn't face filibuster so 'anybody for any reason' is a leetle beet silly), this is true. and the Dems were historically obstructionist under Dubya, with unprecedented use of filibuster during his final years. and so on and so on.

the forest -trees reading is there has been an arm's race to the bottom resulting in an ever more broken system, culminating in the nadir of Trump's SCOTUS picks. and things will only be worse they next time they take control if the legislative minority safeguard is stripped away.

If you don't burn everything down now, we will do it later... and you will regret it.
