In LA's case, I think the worst NIMBY thing is the Long Beach Port freight corridor.

Residents angry at all the pollution.

Try to plan building a dedicated freight line which would involve relocating residents/buying property. Using trains to move stuff off the ports instead of trucks.

Residents angry that you're taking their homes away.

Traffic and pollution never get fixed and residents angry at all the trucks that continue to pollute the air.

Supply chains remain snarled as hundreds of thousands of shipping containers clog up the streets and ports.

Bernie publicly calling for the infrastructure bill to be defeated now and the promised House vote never came today. far from dead but the vitals could be better. interesting wrinkle is how many Repubs Pelosi can get, a dozen or two could offset the progressive rebellion.

lotta daylight between 3.5 and 1.5 (my cursory math shows roughly 2), dunno if the Dems are gonna resolve this quick. infrastructure is a big win for everybody, the country too, but this gives the progressives leverage and they are a using it thus far.

I know this is a disappointment that might not make up for 20 years of policy degradation, but if you told me a year ago that President Joe Biden was only going to be committing 1.5 tril to liberal agenda items, I would have roflcoptered my way off into the sunset. Heck, if you had told me this in December of 2020 I would have tried to sit you down and explain how the legislature works.

This isn't all that we needed, but even 1.5T is A LOT.
