It's not just they wanted it, but there was basically an agreement that was how it was going to happen until moderates shit the bed.

They didn't, they just didn't want the bill to pass without the other because they probably felt that passing this would not provide any guarantee or assurance the other would pass.

Because those 6 people are trying to convince the other 265 to hold the line across a wider political spectrum.

At least Bernie and Warren know when to concede points to get a bill across the finish line.

I'm really interested in how Progressives continue to get shit on when they espouse programs and legislation which have support from the majority of the country but lose in elections because Republicans excel at turning them into talking points that people don't understand and are afraid of.

Do you think CRT lost the election in Virginia or do you think Republicans lying nonstop about CRT and what it means and people just eating that shit up played a bigger role?

Saying that they're bad at messaging or something is an argument I could hear but blaming them for the dysfunction in the Democratic party is just one more thing Republicans get a baffling pass on.

Like how much are we going to shit on Manchin and Sinema without mentioning that not a single GOP Senator wants to come to the table, for no reason other than they don't want Democrats to have a win?

Too bad two moderate Senators have more power than the progressive House caucus

I mean, a lot of this could be avoided if we actually got on the term limit, age restriction, and possibly an upper ceiling on wealth bandwagon, but with how the GOP works, they've likely got a cadre of equally malicious idiots waiting to take the old guard's place that we only but saw a glimpse of within the Trump administration.

The thing you all have to remember is that as shitty as he is, Manchin's value over likely replacement is the highest in the Senate because the Dems have literally no chance if he's gone. The GOP has to enable the crazy Trump/Q contingent in order to win, we have to enable the moderates. Politics is literally a game of coalition building.

Now our coalition wouldn't have to deal with Manchin and Sinema if we could fix gerrymandering, the electoral college, and other things that artificially empower right wing politics (and thus force the Dems to compete in flyover country by being moderate). But unfortunately that requires winning first. And thus the cycle of bullshit continues.

Remember for all the work Stacey Abrams did in GA, we still would have lost the state if Biden hadn't successfully cut into Trump's lead with the white vote.

Could it? Because I'm pretty sure every old foggie will be replaced with a younger worse person in their own party.

You’ve already seen this with the likes of Green, Gaetz, Cawthorn, Boebert, etc.

As much as The Squad is typically pointed to as some sort of detriment, what would be the GOP equivalent of a more youthful injection of fresh blood at the moment? And I mean in a collective policy sense, not so much independently looney and occasionally aligning. Like I said, I have no doubt they'd be just as bad as the old-timers, but as an inverse to the Dems/Progressives, they're typically just more of the same stagnation and religiously codified regression. Given "the money" would have to otherwise reinvest in fresh blood to bribe them into their policies, I'd argue it'd also become easier to identify corrupting influences among other various needed reforms.

Nonetheless, it wasn't the (far) left being the logjam here. We all know part of this career political posturing is to maneuver for future terms. Remove that motivation and suddenly you may see more acting in actual service of their constituents. Problems like Manchin otherwise remain a self-fulfilling prophecy of lacking replacement when potentials don't have the financial means to compete. I've talked about young adults fleeing WV when given the opportunity before. Lack of investment and opportunity is core to that. That's not going to change when the same minds keep making the same decisions with the same outcomes. Sure, he'll die or possibly become an invalid eventually, but his common GOP competitors in the past are hardly what I'd call the average person, either, and it's not like we can ever expect anything positive as long as the GOP priority is to fuck any and all Dems regardless of how popular a pitch is.
