The dems, left specifically, suck balls at actually marketing shit. We just want nice sound bites and then to act smug if someone is like "Defund the police? wtf why take all their money away??" as we tell them "No no, we mean to take a % of their money and use that to prop up other methods of dealing with crime to assist the police and most cops are actually on board with this". Obviously it doesn't roll off the tongue to explain it but the right fucking weaponizes shit like ACAB and Defund the police way too well. Then dems spend all their time just trying to explain what it means in the first place and are always a step or two behind.
I mean fuck, social media has destroyed shit. It's way too easy to lie and takes more effort to actually fact check and by then no one cares or your fact check is in the comments that no one reads on a video where Joe Rogan is talking about how eating cat poop can cure covid.
We have no fox news, our "crazy liberal media" station is fucking MSNBC where they both sides everything as much as possible to not "appear" too left leaning as if that would be a bad fucking thing. Fox News, OAN, Crowder and others never appear to not want to be basically putting on their klan robe at a moments notice.
Because everyone thinks the GoP is a lost cause so they just dont care, which is fucking dumb. Drag them all for shit sake. Manchin and Sinema def had support from other Dems too I bet behind closed doorsLike how much are we going to shit on Manchin and Sinema without mentioning that not a single GOP Senator wants to come to the table, for no reason other than they don't want Democrats to have a win?

The comments there are quite disturbing to say the least.
Americans overwhelmingly support the things being done by the party they have no intention of voting for. Gotcha.
Truly breathtaking how stupid people are.

I realize you’re most likely venting Zealot but at what point do we stop blaming the populace for being stupid? Let me be clear - stupid is the right word. That being said, I get the feeling the way we’ve gone about politics for the last decade has not been a fortuitous one. Constant gridlock, political tribalism, death threats, extremism, etc. It feels like the ultimate goal is to make communication with the opposing side so hostile that violence turns into the best form of action; something we’ve been seeing pick up steam over the last few years.
I know the GOP and Dems voters have never exactly been great allies but they definitely got along better in the 80s and 90s than they do in 2021. Something needs to change that brings some semblance of unity between the two voters again. Truth be told, the labor movements that have been going on across the country have been a huge bright spot. I can’t think of a better way to rally people of both sides of the spectrum together than to unite them against their shitty corporate overlords.
They got along better because politics was based on civil agreements and politicking. The environment these days is all based on the power game and how to beat the other side, with polarized groups taking hold because rather than acknowledge complex societies exist the powers that be want folks to be simple and easy to control.
So slowly over time, the wrong people end up in the right positions and erode the previously agreed on rules that at least allowed government to function.
Trump was not the one who did this. He is a product of this mentality - where people will elect not what is best for them but what is worst for their opponents, and often this results in picking someone who is "like them" because it's what they perceive their opponents to hate.
It has a lot to do with decreasing respect for institutions and expertise. That's what led to people wanting to vote for someone "like them" because they have stopped recognizing that they should be voting for someone who is capable of making hard decisions. They are instead voting for someone who will put them (whatever tribe they identify with) first.
I've linked the paper before, but this is the thesis behind "Democracy devouring itself" by Rosenberg. Populism is bad. Elites are good.
Except Democrats tend to be perceived as elites (aside: which was always ridiculous because prior to this recent batch of genuine idiots, GOP top-shelf players were universally Ivy-league educated, old-money gentry) and as we're seeing right now the people can overwhelmingly support their policies and still hate them.
Anyway my new plan is to just start buying up parts of the country and building my own new one from the inside using our government's complete capitulation to corporate excess to my advantage until it's too late to stop me.
Gredival, I’ll check out the Rosenberg paper and give it a read.
Slight aside from this; Reddit seems to have collectively lost their fucking mind this year. The political subreddits - especially r/politics are a sea of hopeless misery and rage. It’s among the most concentrated forms of pure doomscrolling i’ve ever had the displeasure of reading. Many of the posters are flabbergasted that the Dems are most likely going to lose the House, Senate or both in the midterms. These midterm predictions are taken more as a sign that the totalitarian GOP fourth reich is coming rather than you know…historical precedent that the party in power always suffers losses in the following midterm. Did people really think voting out Trump and getting a Democratic congress with the slimmest of majorities was going to fix everything overnight?
I get that we’re all inpatient these days but I’m pretty sure massive, systemic changes do not happen overnight.
