As I've said before, you're unlikely to see serious competition from a more grassroots West Virginian because they're too utterly fucking poor to politic. Many of the major campaigns have someone with high level ties to fossil fuels or corporate lawyering as candidates. Quite possibly the only hope is someone with legitimate left leanings and wealth moving to WV with the explicit intent of dethroning him (before he dies or goes invalid). But even that's a gamble because the "They're not a true west virginian!" card would be played, among other expected right wing bullshit about socialism/communism.

Some of the ads I was hearing on the radio the past couple days to stoke Manchin to vote no were pretty lulzy. Was like, "I WISH Pelosi and her agenda was socialist..."

The fact that Manchin has his seat there is an oddity of the fact they had two abnormal senators before him: Rockefeller and Byrd.

the major issue is that the Dems lost a mess of of other races in purple states and thus they have to rely on a blood-red state senator like Manchin, who is a useful ally in some fights, but needs to toe a moderate line to be electable in West Virginia. he's fine as Dem senator 53, as 50 he's gonna break your heart over and over.

Dems and by extension some progressives falling in love with unelectable (due to voting demographics not their actions) candidates is a huge shortcoming of the party.

Throwing enormous amounts of money and effort into a guy running against McConnell and sure to lose just because they have viral sound bytes and says the right things is not how to win a secure majority.

Had Gideon and or Cunningham won their races there is no telling how Georgia might have gone.

I’ll call it now and say that Democrats are losing at least the House or Senate next year; both if things get bad enough. Am I worried? A bit but the entire Trump presidency was a constant source of stress and I don’t want to go another couple of years doing this shit again. I deleted Reddit and Twitter off my phone and only check them occasionally now. I’m not getting any insightful information from Reddit anymore as everyone in the political subreddits seem to care more about whining or making clever comments to earn karma than actual discussions.
