I was looking at it as extra income assuming the adult(s) in the household cover normal expenses like housing and utilities. I'll admit though, that I don't have kids and don't fully know what it costs to raise a child. But I also grew up poor, so that's probably why that amount seems high to me.

I'm not against parents getting that amount since I know the majority will make good use of it, it was more curiosity how they came to that number.

North Carolina's redistricting was found unconstitutional by their Supreme Court, that's the biggest legal win for Democrats yet. Looks like the midterms will actually come down to that rarest of deciders for House control: actually getting more overall votes.

GOP still sitting on a comfortable lead in that arena as well though, in case anyone wanted to get their hopes up.

Not an act of Congress directly per se, but in a rare act of shared agreement both parties agree the IRS move to implement facial ID security to tax filing was a really fucking stupid idea and they backtrack. Oh yeah, also do your taxes early because they're saying it's really, really backed up.

They absolutely could (and should), Cawthorn is the first but will not be the last politician to have this 14th amdendment used on them. It doesn't have to be limited to Congressional candidates and can expand to governors, election workers, secretaries of state, AGs, etc. As usual however it would probably be raised to SCOTUS and... we know they give zero fucks about law or precedent anymore so that doesn't make me especially hopeful.
