popular support for same sex marriage is up to 70%, including 55% of Republicans, and 50 House Republicans voted to pass it in that chamber. 60 in the Senate is a high but certainly manageable bar if we see a similar 20%ish attrition amongst Republicans politicians. most of the usual moderate suspects in Collins, Murkowski, Romney, Tillis, and Portman have either signaled or suggested strongly they will support it. it has significant Republican support at this moment and does indeed appear to be heading to 60.

this isn't abortion. as strongly as i support reproductive rights the argument of 'dead babies' is always going to resonate a lot more strongly than eww gays. with Republicans trying to gobble up Senate seats in purple states going the anti-gay route is not in many of their electoral interests when 70%+ of a statewide electorate wants you to protect them from a deeply unpopular SCOTUS. and i imagine more than one simply realizes that they're on the wrong side of history at this point. eg Portman switched sides after his son came out as gay.

Meanwhile, Democrats are on track to get their asses kicked in the midterms regardless. As of 14 hours ago 538 has Republicans taking the house at an 87% chance with 80% of the scenarios showing 235 seats. For reference Democrats currently have a majority at a total of 220 seats. The "this will surely do then in this time" doesn't seem to be happening.
