Also, AR-15 is blown out of proportion. It is the focus of something narrow in a wide (wide) problem. Not only are you not addressing their basic comment to a gun problem, but it's best you don't. You have no basis of which to be more than a paranoid parrot.

There's a debate to be had about denying gun access to people but there is some shit people just shouldn't be allowed to have. Cops in Ulvade refused to engage with the shooter because they believed they couldn't do so without several casualties but we should totally let people have AR-15s.

It really doesn't and I'm beyond tired of hearing this "argument" that because people aren't 100% well-informed on all types of guns they somehow dont have an opinion of their own that matters.

So what is so special about the AR-15 compared to every other semiautomatic rifle that it needs to be singled out as this lethal killing machine that civilians shouldn't have their hands on? Cause that's constantly how it gets framed.

It does seem to be the type of gun widely used in these mass shootings. What would that reason be? They are easy to purchase, comparably easier to shoot for someone who is physically smaller or not as strong, easier to reload. The things that make it great in a combat situation for military or police use also make it dangerous in the wrong hands. It’s a perfect storm. Eliminating them (or doing as best you could to eliminate them) from civilian hands would be a start, but it wouldn’t completely solve the issue. People would just use a different type of gun, hopefully one less lethal though.

I mean I'd much rather see the assault weapon ban from the 90s reinstated rather then signaling out the AR-15. It's very frustrating though seeing people say that because it's such a small part of the problem we shouldnt do it.

legislation or bans targeting assault-style rifles can lead to weapons like the Ruger AR-556 pistol (Boulder grocery store shooter shot 10 people and killed all 10) which looks more like a rifle but is regulated like a pistol. the barrel is about 6 inches shorter than its rifle version, and it looks like something The Joker might wield

Being a cop is great when you get deified, paid well, state benefits, discounts, retirement, special treatment, etc. Just don't involve any of those downsides or duties. If the guy has a gun and is shooting children then you just wait outside while it happens for the Feds to show up eventually. Then it is their problem!
