I’ve come across claims (though I can’t verify their accuracy) that he purchased the gun for his child after the FBI/cops had warned him about the child's threats of a school shooting. Normally, I would dismiss this as absurd, but given our current timeline, it feels like Occam's razor is gradually losing its edge.

Colt originally threatened a school shooting in May 2023, his dad gifted the gun used in the shooting Christmas 2023.

Which reminds me of how "rules for thee by not for me" some laws are i.e., if the police kill your accomplice while you are committing a crime, you can be charged with their murder.

I'm ashamed to say that these days, Georgia also has some of the weakest gun laws in the country. I didn't realize how bad until I kicked Google; I just knew they'd repealed the concealed carry law a while ago. (I still remember Dad had to have a permit to carry the handgun he had hidden in his pants b/c he ran a jewellery store. Don't look at me like that. I know robbing a jewellery store is a cliche, but yes it happens and Dad had been robbed at least once, so I don't blame him for the gun; and that's also why I know gun safety; he made sure I knew that it wasn't a toy and always treat a loose gun like it's loaded. )

They do need to be strengthened, tho I don't know with the governor we got in charge if he'll step up and do it. Also the good thing; it seems this could of been so much worse if that school had not given their teachers special badges that could be used as panic buttons. That gadget really reduced the death toll...But it makes me sad that such things are needed at all.

Also man, the parent doing that really takes the Darwin Award for one of the stupider parenting things I've ever heard about. Kid needed a buttwhuppin' and a shrink, not a gun for Christmas.

Thinking on it some more, this is highly dependent on the crime being done because it removes a layer of accountability from cops, especially since they tend to be trigger happy when other methods are available to them. As an example, a cop shouldn't get off scott-free cause they decided shooting at a shoplifter was a good idea when doing so leads to a bystander accidentally being killed.

Multiple people have been shot near a Kentucky highway Saturday night, authorities said, as the search for the gunman continues.

The Laurel County Sheriff's Office said a stretch of Interstate 75 nine miles north of the small city of London has been shut down amid the law enforcement response. The sheriff’s office called the attack “an active shooter situation.”

"Numerous persons have been shot near I-75," the office said in a statement. The extent of possible injuries and the status of any suspect or suspects was not immediately clear.

Gov. Andy Beshear said on social media platform X that he's aware of the situation.

"We are actively monitoring the situation and offering support in any way possible," he said.

Agents with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were responding to assist state police and local authorities, the ATF said.
