A gunman who killed three police officers and wounded two others in rural southern Pennsylvania before being shot dead by police was a 24-year-old man wanted on stalking charges, authorities said Thursday.

The suspect, identified as Matthew James Ruth, was also facing charges of trespassing, loitering and prowling at night in a domestic-related case that began a day before the deadly violence, according to court records. The confrontation erupted Wednesday in York County as officers closed in on Ruth near his family's farm outside Hanover.

Investigators have not released details of the domestic dispute that led officers to seek Ruth, but officials said more information would be made public later Thursday. The two injured officers remained hospitalized in stable condition.

As of 2016, there were 11 incidents where 4 or more law enforcement officers were killed in a single incident (including 9/11 and Oklahoma City)

Man, you’re too quick. I just got out of the traffic from that shooting. The church is burning down and I’m guessing the guy started the fire to force people out before opening fire.

Tough to say right now, but one of the reports I read said the shooter drove into the church (or temple) and opened fire at anyone who moved. There are children said to be amongst the shooting victims.

Geez. I just hope things stay calm here especially since the President of the Church if you saw in the Celebrity Death Thread died of natural causes. (As I said before; don't worry we will have a new President in a little while.)

I just hope I don't have to start carrying mace in my purse when I go to church. (Not to mention remember where the members custodian closet is. If I saw a shooter, I wouldn't pull out the mace, I'd RUN for that. Barring that or if it's locked, I'd head for the nearest ladies's restroom to hide.)
