It's pretty clear and obvious what this situation is. The shooter is not criminally liable for shooting the bystander, so they shouldn't be afraid of jail time for that. They should be found civilly liable though, cause their actions caused harm to another and they are responsible for that. Shouldn't feel morally wrong imo, but their actions caused harm to an innocent and they should be responsible for that.

I think current FL law is clear on this, and it shouldn't be ambiguous

The way I see it, the guy in red car should have lost standing in his case cause he clearly escalated the situation when he drove up and hit the other car with his vehicle as retaliation for getting cut off.

Unless you can prove he meant to hit them on purpose, and didn't just hit them by accident in an attempt to get back in front, then that won't stand.

Just like dude might not be wrong for being pissed at the guy for hitting him, but it doesn't give him permission to come at the other guy and assault him. The shooter is entirely in his right to protect himself when, at that point in time, no one's life was in active danger following the car accident. The second the fists were flying and breaking windows, all bets were off and even lethal force is justified.

If someone else escalates to "I'm gonna murder you with this gun" because of your aggression towards them, you don't get to say "but I was only coming at him cause he rear ended me!"

That excuse doesn't fly. Don't attempt to take another life is a very clear and easy line to not cross, and if you do then you need to be prepared to defend your own life as they are going to try and protect their own.

It doesn't work like that though. There have been other occasions where the one that pulled the trigger escalated the situation or in some cases, started it to begin with, and they were found guilty of murder and SYG did not apply.

To your other point, you can clearly tell the guy in the red car meant to hit the other guy. That was not an accident or him thinking he was far enough ahead to cut them off. He deliberately hit the brakes then hit the front half of the car. Getting cut off does not give you the right to attack someone with your vehicle. I'm not saying he was completely in the wrong for firing his gun when he got attacked afterwards, but he is not entirely without fault and should face some consequences.

The children who were killed range in age from one to 14 years old.

Cpl. Christopher Bordelon said several of the victims were related to the suspect. "We do know that some of the children inside were his descendants," he said.

The suspect allegedly stole a car early Sunday morning and led police on a chase, which ended when the Shreveport Police Department fired their weapons at the suspect.

FWIW, the most obvious use I could see for that would be hiking in places with extremely dangerous wildlife. Bears don't really care about pistol rounds, and having something that folds up and stows so that it's not constantly banging against you or snagging on everything is ideal.

I could see that too, when the VIP can't be protected by overtly armed security. That or special forces infiltration work like the US does in the middle east and Central/South America. If you only have a few targets and want them as dead as possible as fast as possible, 12g buck shot would do the trick.

Overall though, shit like this is mostly made just for the novelty of it. Guns are expensive things that even most owners only have a few of, and manufacturers are constantly trying to find something to set them apart from the competition.
