If I had to choose, I'd choose the weapon to be regulated and not the magazine or ammo type. Make it so they gotta do their murder spree with a knife, not a gimped tactical weapon they're trained to reload in a couple seconds anyways even with their 7 shot magazine.

But if you're not gonna give me a choice, or fight me tooth and nail over any regulation, then yeah regulating munitions and magazines is a great first step.

It is really sad that we have internalized how hopeless real gun control is in this country that the opposition has been trained to think that legislating things like magazine size is doing anything to prevent this sort of violence.

The NRA found their perfect champion in Trump. Even people who traditionally supported stricter gun control are starting to see personal firearm ownership as more important, especially as recent immigration enforcement actions have created a sense of uncertainty and fear. To be clear, most of these people are not imagining themselves taking on the military. What is changing is behavior at a practical level. More people are taking firearm safety classes and choosing to own at least a handgun after seeing ICE shoot America's and no justice being served afterwards.

The broader effect is that gun control, which was already politically difficult, is now even further out of reach.

I do think I remember some studies that showed a correlation of an increase in gun ownership (and training) for more liberal-minded people under Trump's presidency.

The idea that a school mas shooter is gonna care about concealing their guns is dumb. Metal detectors and the security routine all my kids go through to get in every day are great for stopping the kid who brings their dad's handgun to gun down the school bully, but it's not gonna stop the dude who comes in with the intent to just go full spree killer the instant they enter the door. The best security measures added to schools in the age of constant school shootings is still probably reducing entry to one point of entry gated by ring cameras and having to be buzzed in which still isn't much because a lot kids can get a friend to let them in through a back door.

Everything is only an inconvenience. The only thing stopping a mass shooting anywhere (in this country) is every person's desire to not be the shooter and shoot up their community. With gun access what it is in this country, the only thing preventing a mass killing spree is every single person's desire to not be that assailant. The second you don't mind being that person, boom mass shooting.

Appears to be a murder/suicide pact.

Before the attack, officers were already looking for one of the teenagers since his mother called police concerned that her son was suicidal and had run away, Wahl said. There were weapons missing from the home and the mother's vehicle was gone, he added.

The search took on even more urgency as police learned that he was dressed in camouflage and with an acquaintance — details that were unexpected for someone about to die by suicide, he said.

As officers continued interviewing the mother about places the teens might be, they got reports of a shooting at the mosque.

Yesterday, there was also a mass shooting by teenagers in Austin, TX.

Three people are in police custody in connection with 12 shootings and multiple car thefts across Austin this weekend.

One shooting victim sustained serious injuries and three others have minor injuries, Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis said Sunday.

A 15-year-old and a 17-year-old with stolen guns were taken into custody following a car chase in Manor, Davis said, while a third suspect who had also fled the scene remained at large into the evening. The Manor Police Department announced late Sunday that the third suspect had been detained.

Davis said the first call came from a person around 4 p.m. Saturday who reported their vehicle stolen from an Austin apartment complex. Not long after, another call came in about a stolen gun.

She said that over several hours, around 20 calls came in for shootings, primarily in South and Southeast Austin, including at two fire stations.

After a lull, the shooting spree continued Sunday. The suspects appeared to be using multiple stolen vehicles.

The incident ended with a car chase involving Manor police and several other law enforcement agencies around 5 p.m.

Davis said when authorities in Manor stopped the vehicle, three suspects ran from the car. All three are said to be male and in their late teens.

The shootings appear to be random, Davis said.

All of the guns used were stolen from the same gun store and the 17 year old had a warrant out for his arrest.

Shooting today in the Côte-des-Neiges neighborhood of Montreal, CA. Shooter, 1 civ, & 1 officer dead with 1 civ and 1 officer wounded. The dead civ was killed by a responding officer who was startled when the civ was seeking cover at the same spot.
