He wasn't doing anything illegal tho, which it seems he clearly knew when he chose to bring that specific rifle.

A pistol or something with a shorter barrel would have been illegal for a minor to carry, but a full size rifle is legal for a minor to carry otherwise it would be illegal for anyone younger to go hunting.
