But a kid is looking up ammo while drawing disturbing images of gun violence and quotes that indicate a mental health crisis and they didn't? Dah faq?

So, follow up. It's more hilarious than I could imagine. My daughter overheard two kids talking about a school shooting. She told them that they should be careful talking about that in school and then told them a story about how she got in trouble in middle school for saying something about a school shooting. Other kids overheard what I presume were bits of that conversation out of context...reported her...locked down school.

I couldn't help but fucking laugh at the irony.

Friend is a teacher in public school system in NM. Kid in 2nd grade has been talking about wanting to shoot other students and bring a gun of his dads to school multiple times. Apparently he killed a small pet a couple weeks ago, faculty was notified of this as well as all his violent outbursts and everything else and are just like "Eh kids be kids yo"

I mean, the whole laissez-faire "boys will be boys" attitude essentially promotes and supports violence, with shootings being a high end escalation. As long as boys aren't allowed to have feelings and aren't constantly told to suck it up or not be a pussy, shootings will be an eventuality because the adults in their lives didn't notice, didn't care, or didn't want to act (because not their responsibility if not the parents).

Contrast that to girls, and while you may have the occasional cat fight, they're more about gossip and exclusion, with pranks or cyberbullying usually being the worst of it. "It's okay to solve problems with your fists!" or worse is very rarely advice you'd see tossed around in more feminine circles. For better or worse, they're also expected to be emotional, just ideally not too much in the negative/drama queen spectrum.

Recalling how butthurt conservatives got over a razor commercial insinuating parents shouldn't let the seeds of toxic masculinity sprout by actually being parents, I'd say we're gonna keep having school shootings. The rest is just on the usual failings of the 2A and the country's problem with ammosexuality. We all know the fixes, we just have half a country and culture that doesn't want to.
