I dunno, I remember when I was younger and big into Pokemon TCG and Yugioh that I'd love collecting stuff that had no use just cause it gave me a sense of completionism, like completing a set, completing an evolutionary line, having all the cards with related art work, etc. Hopefully there aren't many people out there playing gotta catch em all with their gun collection, but I could see how the act of collecting more alone ticks boxes for people.

I've got a buddy that works at Bud's Guns that says the number of repeat customers is insane. Your average gun buyer isn't someone buying one piece for self protection, hunting, or anything else, it's the same person whose already bought dozens of guns and wants more for *insert political reason.* He said anytime anything at all happens, a shooting, politicians talking about gun control, immigration, taxes, SCOTUS nominations, voting, etc, you got people that call em up immediately wanting to stock up "before our rights are taken away."

I could have bought an 11 pull and have 1000 gems left over, but all I got was this silly title.

About hunters. Expect them to have at least 20 guns. As it was explained to me by someone who had more than 50 guns, there are no swiss-army knife guns when it comes to hunting. Different gun for each type of game. This person didn't own an Assault Rifle though and always kept the gun storage room under deadbolt lock. Lives in the burbs of Dallas-FW. Gave me some venison sausages too.

That is straight horse shit. Most hunters aren't hunting everything under the sun, and even if they are they need like 5 guns. Large bore for big game, Small bore for critters, sidearm in case something goes wrong, shotgun for birds, ??? rocket launcher for deer ???

Dude is trying to justify his weird collection fetish like people that own four cars.

If we can tolerate taking our shoes off at the airport, then we can tolerate a slight increase in gun regulation

Edit: I normally stay out of the political section, but as a gun owner, I feel I should put in my 2 cents.

If you want to know why the majority of gun owners have 8 plus guns. Here's a comprehensive list of what I own in my safe currently:

EAA Witness 9mm Pistol (I purchased for matches)
    S&W .22 Pistol (I purchased for matches)
Beretta .22 Pistol (I purchased for matches)
    Ruger .22 rifle (inherited)
    Benelli 12ga pump shotgun (gift)
    Remington 12ga Shotgun (inherited)
    Ruger .223 hunting rifle (inherited)
    Saint Armory .223 AR (gift)
Savage 6.5 Creedmore bolt-action rifle (gift)
    Winchester .370 hunting rifle (inherited)
S&W 1985 AL State Trooper 50th Anniversary Commemorative .357 revolver SN #1 (Inherited)

Guns don't go "bad" unless they aren't stored and cared for properly. Of the 11 firearms I own, almost half of them were passed down from grandparents or other relatives and others were gifts.

I have been a member of a shooting range for several years and used to shoot several matches (competitions) a year. Hence the 3 pistols I actually purchased myself. I have fired all but the commemorative .357. For me it is not about doomsday or prepping or militia, it is about improving my personal skill and, to put it bluntly, having fun.

The AR was given as a gift because of the platform's modularity. I have a brass catcher, scope and red-dot sight (both with easy-attach mount brackets), and other attachments for it. This cannot be easily done with the same .223 caliber hunting rifle I had previously inherited. At most a scope or red-dot and sling can be attached to it without extensive permanent modification. IMO the A in AR should stand for augment-able, not assault.

Just like there are idiots that should not own a car, there are (mostly the same) idiots that should not own a gun. I am all for stricter gun background checks. There is absolutely no reason this far into the computerized age to have the lax background checks that exist now. The entire NICS background check system needs to be overhauled. For fuck's sake, the NICS check can be phoned in, in instead of electronically submitted.

Department of Justice guidelines require NICS reviewers to make an immediate decision in 90 percent of cases.

    ...

When a check requires more information, the FBI has three business days to make a final determination on the buyer. If a decision can’t be made in that time, a licensed dealer is allowed by law to go ahead and sell the firearm, in a sale referred to by the FBI as a “default proceed.”

Ironically won't help much since something wild like >80% of their gun crime is committed with an illegally smuggled USA firearm

The A in AR-15 stands for ArmaLite, not assault.

People that want increased gun regulation really owe it to themselves and the people that they're trying to regulate to educate themselves about firearms and the various existing laws.

Maybe we could start by holding people accountable when their teenager takes their AR-15 to school and commits an atrocity.
