Got a small hunting shotgun when I was 10 years old. My dad was an avid pheasant and geese hunter (for sport, killings went directly to clubhouses or local markets). He locked up his guns in a grandfather clock with the key "hidden" on top. I only needed a chair from the dining room to access it. Thankfully I was scared shitless of using it after it had nearly blown off my arm the first time I used it (no training, just my dad and friend telling me to shoot down range).

Edit: it was the recoil that scared me, didn't actually shoot myself.

Correlation does not imply causation and also how come we're the only western country in the fucking world who has this shit happen regularly.
