The NRA had the right idea after Columbine; they've moved the Overton window so far to the right that an 18-yo can buy assault rifles on credit, murder his way through an elementary classroom, and the chances of any meaningful legislation passing are zero. Calling for "common-sense gun regulation reform" is playing right into their hands. It's time to start calling for bans and buybacks. And I don't want to hear that the right will get up in arms and go full "from my cold, dead hands" about it; they've been there for decades. If they want to suicide by National Guard, that's on them.

Responsible gun owners should not fear regulation. If they were truly proving they are safe handlers of weapons then why should they think to lose them? What's an extra 3 days to get a new gun through background checks? If you want to use a military assault weapon (I mean a real one) then they should be relegated to gun ranges only - why would they be anywhere else outside a war zone.

Maybe an audit is necessary at this point. Unlicensed and unregistered weapons need to be taken away until proof of safe handling and responsibility is provided. Every card carrier should be getting annual firearms training. Every driver should be getting the same if we are talking about regulating safe use of a deadly weapon.

Just seems common sense to me, but idk I'm not a military LARPer.

Pretty sure this is pretty much how it is in Canada at the moment. Even with handguns right now without the newly introduced law, you need to be a member of a gun range or have a plan to be a member in order to purchase one and you need permission from a chief firearms officer to transport it from your home to your range. And you may have a license to own but you aren't guaranteed a license to transport. If you don't have the license to transport the gun stays at the range.

(snippets of info above gotten from reddit, and can vary province to province)

I have to visit Uvalde memorial hospital tomorrow for work, and I'm dreading it. Its going to be very difficult to be there. So much sadness and grief and anger and frustration.

Since we're doing bullshit correlations earlier let's ask the stupid question: What is the relationship between number of guns owned and IQ/education?

I'm willing to bet there is one.

Polarization has gotten worse. Makes sense to me. Lotta politicians these days get elected based on a brand, bypassing working their way through the grassroots ranks. If they want to stay elected, they have to all-or-nothing. No compromise with "the enemy".

Russia has done a fantastic job since 2008 fucking our nation through division. None of this started there, but at least politicians in that generation were willing to work across the isle on some issues. They understood that getting everything you want was rarely a consideration. This modern, internet crowd born in echo chambers has an "all-or-nothing" approach, and its working... if your goal is to divide the country into "winners and losers" and "allies and enemies".

This might be the dumbest thing I've ever read on this entire forum. Congratulations, that's a helluva feat.

    Muh Guns, Too

An easier solution would be to just have the kids attend school at nighttime, since all the mass shootings happen during the day.

Gun laws become more and more lax to the point of aggressive deregulation over the course of 40 years, all of which corresponds to rise in gun violence, but it's those darn atheists.

Cops hate being held accountable. Again, so glad everyone is finally on the ACAB train.

Don't you get it guys? They could have been shot!

I'm still an advocate for arming the kids, and parents, with guns and letting them pick what happens next with these cowardly fuckbois.

The vast majority don't. Myself included. The majority overall support regulation.

This isn't "gun owners vs. anti-gun" - it's the NRA lobby vs. America. They made it partisan on purpose in order to further the divide.

Anyone who is legitimately a gun enthusiast wouldn't be miffed by regulation. If you like something and have a passion for it then you're going to be fully willing to go through the process. If you only like it because it's fully unregulated then your priorities are totally out of order.
