    Death's Door (PC/XSX/XB1) - Top-Down Action-Adventure - 2021

Developed by Acid Nerve (Titan Souls)
Grim reapers Acid Nerve (Titan Souls) and soulless publisher Devolver Digital have revealed Death’s Door, an offbeat fantasy action-adventure, coming to Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC this Summer.

Announced during today’s ID@Xbox Twitch Gaming Showcase, Death’s Door marks the long-awaited return of developers Acid Nerve, as Devolver Digital CFO Fork Parker remarked; “We can rebuild them. We have the technology. We can make them better than they were. Better, stronger, faster. And hopefully more profitable.”

Death’s Door thrusts players into a quirky and curious world where Crows are in charge of collecting the souls of the dead. Reaping souls and punching a clock might get monotonous but it’s honest work for a Crow. The job gets lively when your assigned soul is stolen and you must track down a desperate thief to a realm untouched by death - where creatures grow far past their expiry and overflow with greed and power.

Venturing forth from the Hall of Doors, explore a land full of twisted inhabitants and countless secrets, bringing hope to the weird and wonderful characters you’ll meet along the way. Wield and upgrade melee weapons, arrows and magic as you track down and defeat colossal tyrants with stories and motivations of their own.

Finished this a few days ago. Good little game, feels like a mini-LoZ but with much more harsh combat. My only real complaint was that you generally have too little health throughout the game, and you only get 2 health upgrades so generally it usually feels very tense until you have all your health.

Most of the bosses/enemies are well designed and fun, though there are quite a few that have no openings so you gotta take risks or just have mad attack patterns, but you can attack safely with some methods (hook slash is OP). I think the most frustration with the game came from areas with tiny platforms you have to fight on, and dodge rolling just sends you flying off the sides. There is 1 enemy that is cancer and I hate forever, fuck you fat mace guy.

The game took me about 15 hours to beat and 100%, some things are very nicely hidden but the game always has a way to let you know what you've missed and where it is. Music is also fantastic and the story is OK with some great characters, but generally there wasn't enough of it.

    edit:
Just watched the above, I would say the combat is done well enough and is more about clean execution and knowing the boss/enemy patterns. There aren't too many attacks, normal attacks, charge, dash, magic abilities and weapon switches. For the most part you'll be rolling and attacking occasionally when you get an opening and only when you get more confident can you start positioning for charge attacks, getting cheeky dash attacks in and generally just using magic when you can (it refills on melee hit). All those combined make for engaging fights when you get into it, but I'd say the amount of punishment you can take definitely deters you from being stylish or taking risks. There isn't really much point to the weapons, most of the time I only used 1 weapon because it was amazing, then switched to a stronger version later on.

Game is a lot more fun and fluid when you get the last ability (and its upgrade), it gives you iframes so you can generally be very aggressive and still remain safe. Combat didn't really feel great for me until that point, which is honestly a shame. But I agree the game has a lot going on for it outside of combat.
