Roberto Alomar placed on MLB ineligible list over 2014 sexual misconduct allegation

Roberto Alomar, who had been serving as a consultant to Major League Baseball, has been placed on the league's ineligible list after an investigation into a 2014 sexual misconduct allegation.

MLB commissioner Rob Manfred said in a statement Friday that an independent investigation by an external law firm was conducted into a baseball industry employee's allegation made earlier this year.

"Having reviewed all of the available evidence from the now completed investigation, I have concluded that Mr. Alomar violated MLB's policies, and that termination of his consultant contract and placement on MLB's Ineligible List are warranted," Manfred said.

"We are grateful for the courage of the individual who came forward. MLB will continue to strive to create environments in which people feel comfortable speaking up without fear of recrimination, retaliation, or exclusion."

Joe Kelly's suspension in 2020 from the Astros incident was a blessing in disguise. He complained of arm weakness during that time off. An exam on his shoulder during the suspension showed a massive cyst and he was pretty much throwing with half of the typical number of shoulder muscles. He got surgery in November 2020 to remove it.

“I ended up pitching in the World Series topping out at 95 mph, not knowing where it was going because had these cysts on my nerve,” Kelly told WEEI. “They ended up putting metal clamps on my labrum and then they decompressed all the cysts. They sucked out some loose bodies from my rotator cuff. So it was a good little surgery.”

Luzardo is out indefinitely after breaking the pinkie on his pitching hand when he thumped a table while playing a video game before his start Saturday.
