Yeah but a billion walks too. His whole profile as pitcher and batter feels boom or bust, and I can't help thinking that he's at risk of not maximizing his value by doing both.

Unsurprising

New York Mets outfielder Kevin Pillar suffered multiple nasal fractures when he was hit in the face by a fastball from Braves reliever Jacob Webb, a frightening scene that shook both teams.

Pillar met Tuesday with a facial specialist in Atlanta to determine the next steps. He was placed on the 10-day injured list but was at Truist Park to watch the second game of the series between the NL East rivals.

"I feel good. I feel real good actually. Despite not looking so good, I feel as close to normal as possible," Pillar told reporters. "The only tough thing is my right eye is suffering from a little bit of swelling and I can't really breathe out of my nose, but besides that, I feel good and I feel lucky and excited to get on this recovery and get back to what I love doing."

Chicago White Sox manager Tony La Russa expressed disappointment in Yermin Mercedes after his designated hitter swung at a 3-0 pitch in the ninth inning of a game the Sox were leading 15-4 over the Minnesota Twins on Monday night.

He smashed the 47 mph pitch over the centerfield fence for his third hit of the game.

"Big mistake," La Russa said on Tuesday afternoon. "The fact that he's a rookie, and excited, helps explain why he just was clueless. But now he's got a clue."

Because of the large deficit, the Twins were pitching infielder Willians Astudillo at the time. He got behind Mercedes 3-0 before basically lobbing the ball to the plate. Mercedes crushed it then celebrated with his teammates while his manager seethed.

"I took several steps from the dugout onto the field, yelling 'take, take, take,'" La Russa recalled. "The way he was set up it looked to me like he was going to swing.

"I was upset because that's not a time to swing 3-0. I knew the Twins knew I was upset...He missed a 3-0 take sign. With that kind of lead that's just sportsmanship and respect for your opponent."

In what has to have been the absolute worst contract ever given out in MLB, Chris Davis is out for the season for hip surgery. Expected to have a full recovery to return in time for next year, which is the last year on his 161 million dollar contract.

Pablo Sandoval's contract with the Red Sox has to be the worst.

He was a negative player for them when he was actually playing and they eventually cut him while still on the hook for 40+ mil.

The only noteworthy thing he did was when his belt snapped mid swing cause he got so goddamn fat while playing for them.
