In what has to have been the absolute worst contract ever given out in MLB, Chris Davis is out for the season for hip surgery. Expected to have a full recovery to return in time for next year, which is the last year on his 161 million dollar contract.

Pablo Sandoval's contract with the Red Sox has to be the worst.

He was a negative player for them when he was actually playing and they eventually cut him while still on the hook for 40+ mil.

The only noteworthy thing he did was when his belt snapped mid swing cause he got so goddamn fat while playing for them.

Depending on how much you like WAR, Sandoval was only a combined -1.4 for his two years, so he's a honorable mention. Pujols was still positive through 2016, then dropped to a little below replacement level. Ellsbury I'll acknowledge as he was pretty much hurt for 90% of that contract.

Long ass contracts like the one Pujol's had are pretty standard to assume the last few years will kind of suck.

If Pujol was actually as old as he claims it's likely only the final two or three years of his contract would have been bad value wise, but well, that man old as shit.
