I mean at this point I kind of want it to turn out to be some sort of lab accident with a Chinese cover up because maybe knowing they were responsible for the biggest economic and human disaster of the last 50 years would make people actually take some action against China.

They've been committing atrocious human rights violations against the Uyghur population such as abducting people, putting Muslims into conversion camps, separating children from their families to place them in Chinese families, genocide, and god knows what else for years without consequences. Hell, they've even done it to other people, too, such as journalists, authors, students and anyone else who dares critique the regime. A Swedish author has been detained in China since 2015 and didn't get sentence to 10 years in prison for "illegally providing intelligence overseas" until 2020 after a coerced, obviously false, confession. What makes you think they wouldn't get away with this, too?

one Tibetan child ain't gonna carry the same impact as millions dead internationally and a world economy shut down for a year come on fam. China is a nuclear power and the world's largest exporter so it ain't like NATO divisions will ship out tomorrow, but if it does come out they both engendered and then tried to cover-up this pandemic they will face a degree of censure hitherto unimaginable. they would become the least popular nation in the world overnight and an international pariah diplomatically.
