RE: this, CDC released data (a few minutes ago) indicates this is a nothing burger, they can have just as much virus as unvax'd people but still overwhelmingly unlikely to spread or catch symptomatic illness
New mask guidance basically only saying that areas with super high spread make breakthrough infections likely enough to qualify as unacceptable to them
Also interesting to note that the CDC has still, a year plus into this now, never commented on "long covid" - the harbinger of doom that gets thrown around almost constantly now
looks like we got a real pandemic of the unvaccinated on our hands
Ah well.
nevertheless
My young cousin has COVID and isn't feeling well. She's only 18.

Not sure. My younger brother also got it earlier this year, I may have had it at the initial outbreak but it was impossible to get a test back then so I'll never know for sure.
Edit: I've just been informed that no, she was afraid of the vaccine. Mother fucker.
I've been full vax'd since February and mask up everywhere, even since mandates have been lifted. Its just common courtesy imo
It's more or less pointless though when you go places and more than half are no longer masking. If it makes you feel better, go for it. But it doesn't do much.
Vaccination ain't nothing.
"I got my shots, fuck everyone else, even though there are people who actually cant get the vaccine for actual health reasons or that the vaccines aren't infallible, fuck everyone else, I got my shots, I'll be fine" mantra lives on.
Nah man. I still mask up at the store and shit. Doesn't make it any less performative. Masks just don't work all that well when half the people aren't doing it.
Universal masking needs to be universal otherwise most people will drop them either because everyone else did, or because being the only person masked in a crowd of unmasked people does jack shit, as above.
I wore them for a solid month after the mandate lifted because almost everyone else still did. When I started being the only person left around me with one on, I took it off. If that shifts back again I'll put it back on but I highly doubt it.
Me wearing a mask in a store full of 300 other unmasked people is not going to kill your immunocompromised / <12 year old / insert reason here for not being able to get a vaccine relative/friend/etc
Incidentally this is exactly the reason why many believed the mandate was lifted too early to begin with. I'm starting to agree with those people.
