i'd actually say half the homeless i see wear masks and the other half don't. sometimes i'll see one walk into a mall without a mask trying to raise a stink on purpose so he can get tossed in the tank for a night for free room and board

honestly most homeless in ontario live in shelters so for the most part are used to masks

This falls right back to the same problem. Cities with 90% vaccination rates like SF are going to mask up, close stores, flip the absolute fuck out and subsequently not even move the needle because their area doesn't fucking need to do any of that.

Meanwhile the towns and counties with 20-30% vaccination rates are throwing huge parties and doing whatever they want and never cared for a single day of the pandemic.

I guess you could declare another state of emergency and federally require the vaccine for all citizens or else. Even then I'm not sure how you make it work. Send workers with cops door to door? Shootouts with conspiracy theorists?

At some point you do have to acknowledge that the situation is just fucked and despite knowing exactly where the blame lies, there may not be an actual solution.

bylaw aren't police. they're the people that give out parking tickets or fines to businesses that aren't up to fire code or whatever. every city and town has a million of them and none of them do anything but give out fines to people as that's their entire job description to start with

it's beyond easy to simply target fines towards businesses that aren't properly enforcing mask policies. once businesses start getting fines, they'll restrict guests and workers on their own 'cause no business wants to get fined every day.

Reminds me a couple months ago when fat fuck Ford shuttered up all of Ontario because "infection rates are out of control" when maybe 70-75% of new cases were in the Toronto region. Better shutter up Thunder Bay because Toronto's covid problem is out of control!

Technically, in the United States you cannot force an individual to accept any form of medical treatment. You can require the vaccine to do certain activities, but you cannot tie them down and stick a needle in them.

This. 100% this. I grew up in Selma Alabama and that was one of the bigger towns around us with around 20,000 people. If you think for a moment that Selma or any town nearby is going to actually enforce covid things that come from the Biden administration then you're going to have a bad time.

a government not installing anything at all is a totally different conversation than the one we are having. we've been talking about citizens at this point

I think the argument is to what end? Why should the government bother to install anything beyond the massive amount of recommendations they've been doing at this point? All such a policy would do is potentially risk people who still classify themselves as independent from voting for them. The people who've been following the recommendations would still follow them if officially mandated and the people who haven't been following them would just shout 'muh freedom' and continue to ignore it. I don't see much to gain and everything to lose at this point from the government trying to install anything beyond recommendations.
