None of this is good, but you clearly have optimistic data that this is not going to be winter 2020. Look at the UK's winter charts. The death and cases charts were almost exactly proportional. Then look at the delta comparison.

teaching at a community college this year, they are not. the only thing i ever heard from them is they sent out an informal survey asking staff their vaccination status: the results were something like 95%+ of the staff is vaccinated, but they also said a lot of people did not respond, and they assume anyone who did not respond is probably not vaccinated

Rutgers did mandate vaccines though

This is kind of shocking. India was in a doom and gloom, "easily outpace the US for deaths" with no vaccines in sight kind of panic the last time I saw anything about it

It's probably because Delta is massively more infectious while only equally or perhaps even less deadly.

If literally everyone gets infected with it then the virus is going to burn out extremely fast. COVID becoming an incredibly infectious but otherwise not serious illness is 100% the best possible outcome for humanity.

My county sent out a notice to all employees that they must show proof of vaccination by October 1st or be terminated, no exceptions. This is in Florida. So, looks like a lot of job openings soon.

yeah so dumb ass unvaccinated coworker sent his two unvaccinated teenage sons to a local summer camp.

summer camp closed because of over 100 positive cases there.

one of his boys popped hot.

i get told this as an amusing anecdote on monday.

today, he texts us he's getting tested because he has a scratchy throat. ok...shouldn't you have...maybe done that in the first place, genius? but sure, whatever. of course, he is positive and whining about having to isolate now.

in the meantime he's totally fucked the rest of us. our new lead has lost five family members to this shit, including his step mother just three weeks ago. he's fucking livid. he's also not feeling great, so will not be at work tomorrow while we get our testing lined up. me, i have the usual shit i always have: dry cough to the point my chest is tight and my side hurts, check (always have it, welcome to the central valley), headache and sinus issues, check (always have it, and i'm pissed so that doesn't help), fatigue, check (always), etc. fucking bullshit. have to see if my doc clears me to go back to work or not pending testing (i'm betting...not).

the only other unvaccinated guy is out on medical for another month, so there's that missed at least.

It does seem that way. It's infecting way more unvaccinated people but killing them at about the same rate as previous strains. That does tend to imply it's less deadly. Either that or the demographics of the infected are impacting it. Likely it's both.
