You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

Resident Alien has been blasting on my Netflix due to the new season coming soon, and I have never heard/read anyone talking about it, but I love Alan Tudyk, so I figured I’d give it a shot. Especially, since Netflix is pretty selective on what they are willing to renew.

I am three episodes in and this show is fucking hilarious. Tudyk is such a fucking great actor and was the absolute perfect choice for the role.

I don’t know if it falls off or anything and don’t care, I’ll keep watching just to see.

If it’s been under your radar like me, you should really give it a try.

    It stays good.

I'm pretty sure Tyche also watches, think they've mentioned it a few times in this thread or wherever

So this is good, very interesting premise and the tailer does not give away a main plot point.

Wife and I watch it. It is the rare show that has gotten better every season in my opinion. At worst, quality never drops.

Yeah, the g/f and I picked this up recently (she had seen season 1 but not anything after). We're about 1/13rd of the way through season 2. I'm really enjoying it.

There are definitely some moments in season 2 where I've rolled my eyes. Mostly due to a higher episode count and padding for time moments. Season 1 was really tight. Alan Tudyk makes the show for sure. But looking forward to more.

End of season 2, the show catapults into greatness. And not entirely (or even mostly) because of Tudyk. A few of the characters really start hitting their stride.

    I just got this email:

With YouTube TV, our goal is to offer you the content you love, delivered the way you want it. To make this happen, we enter into agreements with network partners to make their content available on YouTube TV. As such, we’ve been negotiating with Paramount to reach a fair agreement that allows us to keep their channels, including CBS, on YouTube TV without compromising the value of our service. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we’ve been unable to reach an agreement.

‌On February 13, 2025, all Paramount channels will likely become unavailable on YouTube TV. If this happens, this will impact previous Library recordings from these channels, Paramount content in the Entertainment Plus package, and add-on services like Paramount+ with SHOWTIME and BET+. Should Paramount content become unavailable, we will continue to update our Help Center with the latest.

‌We know how frustrating and disruptive it is to lose channels you enjoy on YouTube TV, and we’re committed to providing you with the best possible entertainment experience. That’s why we’ll continue advocating on your behalf to offer you more flexibility in how you watch your favorite sports and shows while preserving the value of our service. It’s our goal to restore Paramount content to YouTube TV, but if we do not come to an agreement and their content is unavailable for an extended period of time, we'll offer our YouTube TV subscribers an $8 credit. You can still watch Paramount shows and movies by signing up for their streaming service, Paramount+, starting at $7.99/month. For more information on how we’re addressing our Paramount+, BET+, and Entertainment Plus subscribers, please visit our Help Center.

‌We hope YouTube TV continues to be your service of choice, but we understand some of our members may want to cancel their subscriptions. As always, family managers have the ability to pause or cancel anytime. You can find more information in our Help Center.

‌Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to work towards a fair agreement with Paramount. As always, we sincerely appreciate your YouTube TV membership.

    ‌Sincerely,
    The YouTube TV team
The price just went up again in January too.

YouTube TV is just cable potentially without ads and without the bundling discounts at this point, right?

Absolutely. But it's also probably the best one of 'those' out there.

At $83 a month it most certainly is not.

I get it. I first got YTTV at $35/month and dropped it when it hit somewhere around $50 or $60.

"Best" is relative. It's still $30 or so less than the standard cable package where I live. If you are comparing it directly to cable -- which we were -- it's not half bad. Compared to other cable *replacements* (Hulu, Fubo, DirectTV, Sling) the only one substantially cheaper is Sling and there's arguably a quality difference there. Again, all relative. I expect the price will keep going up. I'm not willing to pay that much myself.

If I'm not mistaken it has the largest subscriber base and about 50% of that market.

It does not directly compare to Netflix, Apple TV+, Disney+ or other direct-stream content. The cost, quality, and ability to rotate services (including turning them off easily) would be my recommendation to most people. But that's not what everyone wants.

YouTube has the best available channels for the price. Comcast for those same channels is well over $100 a month.

I was eyeing this. What all is included/how does it work? Is it just... everything? Is it a program you open and can select channels?

If one were so inclined to use one of the various totally legal IPTV services, the process is typically to enroll in said service, then create a playlist file (usually generated based on playlist/channel options) and load that into any number of IPTV players (I prefer TiViMate). Many providers also provide you information on inputting necessary info to get a program guide up and running.

End result is a UI that is probably almost entirely like a UI you'd see in a cable box from a cable provider, but with more customization options and decidedly less stability is most cases. They can be very valuable for $10 a month, but finding one that stays relatively stable can be a challenge.

    Basically this.

It depends on the front end you decide to use. I log into the website and go to a gigantic, sorted list of every single channel you can think of. And I mean every channel. Last I checked it was in the tens of thousands. It also includes movies, and lots of pron lol. Then it takes my choices and makes a .m3u playlist I can put into an app. I use VLC to play from my phone or PC, and stream to my Chromecast from there.

Everything is in actual HD, high bitrate too. Looks better than any live stream from a premium service imo. The best part is it's available anywhere I want cause it works perfectly on mobile. Bandwidth is an issue since the stream quality is so high, but that's usually only a problem in specific areas of town and never at home.

It's also cheaper than $10/month if you use crypto to reload your account, and you can prepurchase more time I think and get it even cheaper. I mainly use it for sports events, and in the slow season I just skip it. Otherwise it's $10 a month for football and NHL games which is my main squeeze.
