Heads of State was stupid fun.
Heads of State was stupid fun.
So I was thinking I hadn't seen a good late middle-ages movie in a very long time. Go to the trusty old Google and ask it what some good suggestions would be for that period. Outlaw King comes up. Name seems stupid, probably never gave it a second thought, assuming it was some Old West Texas shit. I see the cast. Read the blurb. I'm all in at this point.
Guys, this movie is a banger. Hands down my favorite movie from this time period. Braveheart Shmaveheart. It pales in comparison. Chris Pine"s dick. Florence Pugh's tits. Aaron Taylor Johnson playing an absolute psychopath in an amazingly accurate period piece with a gorgeous set and beautiful costumes design.
Great movie.
Idk about this one Genndy...
I know it has it's own thread but it hasn't had a post in years and some people were talking about it here a couple months back

There will be no last-minute reprieve for Resident Alien this time as the sci-fi comedy-drama starring Alan Tudyk will be ending its run with the current fourth season, Deadline has confirmed. The upcoming Season 4 finale on Aug. 8 will serve as a series finale.
Resident Alien came close to cancellation after Season 3. It ultimately clinched a renewal with a budget reduction and a move from its original home, Syfy, to sister NBCUniversal cable network USA. (Season 4 ultimately simulcast on both channels.)
Despite a boost in awareness from previous seasons’ exposure on Netflix, the new episodes of Resident Alien have been a modest ratings performer amid declining overall cable viewership and haven’t gotten much traction on NBCU streamer Peacock.
Resident Alien creator, executive producer and showrunner Chris Sheridan, who based the series on the Dark Horse comics, had seen the writing on the wall and did not expect a second miracle renewal.
“I knew going into it that this was likely going to be our final season,” Sheridan told TV Insider, which first reported Resident Alien‘s cancellation. “Creatively, that was exciting because I knew we could spend the time wrapping up some storylines and driving toward an ending. I’m so proud of how good Season 4 is and especially proud that we were able to finish as strongly as we did, with a finale that is probably my favorite episode of the series.”
I think I've watched K-Pop Demon Hunters, independently of my children, at least 4 times. It's so fucking good. My 2 favorite movies of the year are musicals!
Speaking of music. The Oscar for best original song is going to have several songs that would probably win on their own any other year.
Golden
I Lied To You
Whatever Erivo blesses us with in Wicked 2 (she's an Oscar away from an EGOT).
I Lied to You or we riot
Nothing comes close. Distant first. Debut acting gig...wow.
I tried to watch it when I saw it recommended here and quit after 30 minutes or so. It was fine, but I didn't get the hype.
I mean, middle aged men aren't exactly the target demographic. I have 6 kids. I have watched a lot of straight to stream animation and this is top tier. Original story, great animation, bright and colorful, great music, just the right amount of self deprecation. Most of all it's just fun...and short.
I dont have kids and thought it was amazing.
Fuck the choppy frame rate though.
Fucking Spiderman, this, Predator: Killer of Killers.
I'm tired of 3D animation shooting on 2s, it's ass.
"iT's A sTyLiStIc ChOiCe!" Well it's a shit style.
K Pop Demon Hunters took over the #2 spot in most streamed movie ever on Netflix. #1 is a matter of when. Viewership always ramps up for around 3 weeks, or 4 weeks of good growth if you're lucky, then begins to level out.
And then there's this bonkers chart...
Golden also hit #1 on Billboard Hot 100 yesterday.
I think the song has the Oscar on lock solely for its ridiculous commercial performance
I don't think ears and eyes are particularly important to the academy. I'd bet Cynthia Erivo will still be favored. It's rumored she took a writing credit on a song that, most understand, was pretty much already written just to shoot for the EGOT. Plus, Wiked is later in the year and has unlimited marketing resources. Miles Caton deserves it, so far, but it's his first acting role and in a horror movie. Usually not much love there. I still think doing such a different song than what anyone else will submit could swing the vote despite its handicaps. Golden will get a nod, but I'd be shocked if it wins over either of the above.
The Academy Awards ignoring the commercial aspect of its nominees/winners has been a big part of the reason less and less people care about it.
Of course awarding something solely designed as Oscar bait so everyone involved can circle jerk each other is absolutely what they would do.
I think if you had told anyone working on the project that KPDH would be nominated for multiple Oscars, get a theatrical release, and become Netflix's biggest movie in history, they'd have laughed at you. Everyone on that project has to be swelling with pride. Something tells me Sony didn't prioritize this over, the already VERY late, Spiderman. It reminds me of Disney's B-team of animators putting out one of the best animated movies of all time (Lion King) while the A-team worked on Pocahontas.
they should absolutely ignore commercial considerations it's supposed to be an award of merit not a fuckin popularity contest
that said their taste is pretty bad and they do go for baity shit / have an intense American/English bias / anti-genre prejudice but u know
also
guess i should see this fuckin thing eh. K Pop Demon Hunters is a truly terrible name on the ears of a 37-year old anime-agnostic adult human male but
Something like Black Panther probably shouldn't have been nominated for best picture.
On the other side, Nomadland was fucking dog shit and genuinely one of the least entertaining movies I've watched in my entire life.
