Same...I'm having flashbacks to Altered Carbon. He's fine/great as a side character, but I haven't been impressed with him leading.

Every single time a scene requires him to be at the forefront it just falls flat.

Mainly due to the fact he had someone to play off of. Scenes when he was by himself and had to carry the scene, it fell flat. That said, I'll probably still go see it so long as it's not an episode of Captain America logs into Credit Karma to see if his credit score is high enough for another loan.

Anthony Mackie is a great Captain America, but a leading man he is not. He is also a great actor and can do some awesome things with the right material, I just don't think he can carry a franchise alone.

Civil War felt more like an Avengers movie than a Captain America movie, and I hope a Mackie frontline movie is more of the same lol.

I am guessing he was already onboard, but had his contract renegotiated to avoid a Scarlett Johansson-like incident.

That we know of. Who's to say he may not make a cameo in an upcoming film? Also, the ramifications of events on D+ shows mean way more now (Loki) so everything important doesn't have to be in the movies. I'm sure he'll reprise the role of Cap in the next Avengers movie. Whenever the hell that happens.

I think, he's not Steve Rogers and I think that's a good thing. Because to me, this new Cap is Rocky. He's going to be the underdog in any situation. He's not a super soldier. He's not a hundred years old. He doesn't have the Avengers. What happens with this guy who announces publicly kind of, without the support, 'I'm new Captain America.' What happens next? I think is fascinating because he's a guy. He's a guy with wings and a shield, but he is a guy.

So, we're going to put him through the wringer and make him earn it, and see what happens when he is outweighed, outclassed, out-everything. What makes somebody Captain America? I'm going to argue it's not being a super soldier. And I think we're going to prove that with Mackie and Sam Wilson.
