there’s no carry over from the first one, other than just knowing the detective character is good/well known

no characters or even the general plot from the first film come up at all from what i remember

They're all rich. There's no repercussions for the rich. The "comeuppance" is seeing the big bad lose their financial empire, but if you were expecting criminal consequences, you haven't been paying attention to the real world.

The important thing here is that I hope Daniel Craig and Rian Johnson want to make these forever.

Craig doing a southern accent and a rotating cast of top actors in silly scenarios is fun.

Just an ease of access situation. I got Netflix, and the first one isn't on any streaming service in Canada.

Sounds like I should be fine hitting up the original at a later date then when the wallet isn't hit as much from the holidays.

I liked this a lot, I liked the whole Trojan Horse metaphor of the story/the foreshadowing with Among Us. Also very different kind of mystery and movie from the first. The first one told us what the hidden story was almost immediately (before unveiling another, even MORE hidden story), this one waited until closer to the middle/end.
