debating starting off on give me god of war like an idiot

only ever played the first one on give me god of war, high recommend forces you to engage with the nuts and bolts of the combat system which is phenomenal through and through

that said i also died to the Valkyrie Queen for 3 straight hours so ymmv

Some of the reviews I’ve seen didn’t go into detail to avoid spoilers but they did say there were challenging boss fights in the same vein as the Valkyries from 2018 GOW so that’s got me hyped.

i played god of war on whatever the level below gmgow was my first playthrough then did gmgow after (never played any of the other games)

i did eventually beat the valk queen on gmgow so ill probably be fine, but i remember i struggled in a few points of the game. whatever the dungeon was in the middle of the map where the hub is kicked my ass pretty bad, was stuck there for a while. i feel like the final baldur fight took me a while too

You can lower the difficulty from GMGOW on this one if you want to (2018 you were locked in), you just can't go back up if you lower it.

No reason not to try IMO. If it's dogshit spongeyness at the beginning again I'll just tick it down no regerts.

Immediate thought a little over an hour in, if you're on PS5 and have the TV for it, absolutely go performance/uncapped fps. The visual difference is very very minimal to my eyes but that mode with VRR is floating around 80-90 fps, feels/looks fantastic.

also only first boss in and yet to die but jesus christ my skill at this combat system has deteriorated so bad lmao

Compared to all the previous games in the series I greatly appreciate that you maintain most of the traversal skills you had by the end of the prior game. They're not as useful as they were last time around, but it's just nice for them to drop that trope from the series since there's no Hades to dump you in and strip everything away.

As a negative though, I am sad that they brought back the fucking Ravens again. Unnecessary achievement bait that serves no purpose to the actual game.
