Yeah, can't say any job is a sure thing forever. Some may be more stable due to a perceived societal demand, which I'd argue streaming falls pretty low on, but bad management can easily ruin a good thing. Sometimes there are external factors beyond even that.
Otherwise, it's just legit reality TV. Most of the time, anyway. With a lot of people cutting the cord for cable TV, dropping a 5'er on someone you like is also more financially viable. More so if you're keen enough to navigate the high seas for what big media content you do want.
I'll admit to buying a $70 art tablet for someone, myself. Context here being I had a pretty good day and got home with a nice chunk of cash in my pocket. So to pass it forward, I chipped in, further knowing what having the proper tools as an artist can do to motivate. They've gotten hundreds of hours of art streams out of it already and I've helped them learn some digital techniques along the way. And while I was just a regular viewer for them at the time, the kindness did wind up opening the door for a friendship, too, as they were not expecting anyone to help as quickly as the goal was met as someone who maybe gets 10-30 viewers tops. Plus their dog is cute, and I'm a sucker for doggos.
Of course, I know some power viewers that'll drop hundreds, if not thousands, monthly on streamers. I certainly wish I had that kind of disposable income, and there are some I worry who do maybe have a bit of a problem given the parasocial risks, but as long as chargebacks aren't happening (as is the case with some major donations as some trolls like to "break the streamer" for clout), I'd honestly rather this cash go to individuals over megacorps even if twitch is getting an unjustified cut.
But yeah, if you do live stream, a good background helps. If you collect things related to content, showing them off is an easy way to generate some interest. Pets making regular appearances is also a nice trick (a second cat/dog cam helps if they really take off). Otherwise, shit's not gonna happen overnight, and twitch rarely accepts partner status on new qualified applicants. Just getting affiliate within a few months should be considered fair progress.
