What do they mean by burned in ads?
What do they mean by burned in ads?
Where the ads are permanently on the screen.
Like a fighting game tournament where the gameplay will be slightly shrunk down and the edges of the screen ringed with sponsor logos
Ahh, that's what I figured. I don't watch much twitch, so never heard of that term before.
I'm confused with all the not allowed shit...? Is that because of like, the burned in ads being the focus when another automatic ad may be placed? Some sort of weird conflict of interest?
Now I'm wondering 2 things:
Thing the first: Is it a coincidence that they announced this 2 days after SGDQ ended, or was it held off because they would then be forced to essentially shut down the charity event whilst announcing these new restrictions?
Thing the second: What's the "toned-down" version of this they undoubtedly have prepared in order to give people the illusion of victory via some small concession on Twitch's part?
I guess every streamer is going to pack their face cam full of their sponsored products/flags now instead of their face. This shit is way too restrictive.
I could understand from a business perspective them getting shitty about people playing their own ads on their video (even though Twitch's own will override when it decides to play),
but cmon, you pay pennies unless you happen to have a giant viewerbase already.
So Reddit trying to kill any apps via blocking API, twitch trying to fuck over all their creators, Twitter being run by Elon, etc etc. It's like these companies all just hit the "CAPITALISM WALL OF GAINS" and now have to go batshit insane because "OMG WE HAVE TO SHOW GROWTH EVERY FUCKING YEAR OR WE DIEEEEEE!"
All these like social media companies could easily tell all these other companies to fuck off with their ad demands too because where else are they gunna put their ads....? Magazine? TV? LOL okay.
I'd say all businesses are all going LEAN LEAN LEAN CUT COSTS MORE REVENUE because they lost access to the cheap money spigot (Cheap loans from near 0% short term interest rates)
Miss u Zet. Lean 4 life.
And the "we fucked up" posts come:

The problem is that when Amazon acquired Twitch they didn't have the same understanding of the space and Twitch's plans. That's how I got axed.
Amazon literally didn't understand the point of Twitch being a sponsor or owning teams so they cut GGA and EG off
Bring back the 24/7 MXC channel!
Basically the way I'm reading this: Twitch is pissed that sponsors and streamers are going around their new business model by having on-screen ads that they don't get a cut from and forcing everyone to use their new godawful live TV style ad blocks.
Thing is, Twitch doesn't hold any of the cards here. Sponsors are pissed, management companies are pissed, streamers are pissed. There are competitors to Twitch now. This was a terrible play.
Yeah, Twitch just doesn't have competition yet. Youtube might be the closest, but it's still lacking. Ironically, part of what holds YT back is google ad services and their push for squeaky clean content. Much like Twitter, they're all fucked if some competition ever does manage to get a foothold.
Were they gonna go? Mixer? Facebook? Kick? Nah, the only viable alternative right now is YouTube Gaming with its own pitfalls.
I’m still predict Porn Hub is gonna rebrand as “The Hub” down the line, and have Porn Hub of course, but also have a dedicated Gaming Hub, Sports Hub, IRL Hub etc, just with age restrictions.
You forgot about the alt-right Rumble that some streamers have dipped their toes in.
Speaking of the fgc I basically watch most events on YouTube these days cause the user experience is 100x better.
