A lot of people may have a no politics, religion, trauma dumping, or whatever kind of personal rule, but it's not really an official twitch rule per se. Spewing anti-woke republitard rhetoric about a specific user or the collective left may be a grey area more under hate speech, for example, but it's probably happening more often than we know on sub-partner streams and if someone has vods disabled it can be harder to catch. General sentiment seems to be more people go to twitch to escape stuff, so the moment someone does the thing they don't like, it's either check out or pitch a fit about it. I've kinda hit the point where I just refuse to watch people who are just fake smiles, refuse to comment on things, and are very much just playing it safe to feed the algorithm.

As for the rule changes in general, I'd say it's about time. More or less making it, "If you want it, you have to seek it out..." is fine with me, as the idea of mature tagging is about the best faith gesture a streamer can utilize relative to random viewers. Rest is up to good parenting and understanding that trying to segregate any and all mature stuff to sex sites is just the usual puritan censorship and social overreach that a lot of people are so fucking sick of. <Insert token hypocrisy of being okay with brutally violent video games while titties are bad here.> But being more artistically inclined, I've also been viewing twitch as more than a gamer site for a while now. Incel gamer dudebros are still a thing, though, so of course it's not fair they can't flaunt cleavage for views and just assume that's why no one wants to be around them.

As a parent and an IT professional muddying the waters like this is a nightmare. Managing content filtering, DNS filtering, and firewall rules when seemingly normal websites and websites that are often used as a platform by businesses allow content like this really sucks. There is a reason why they should remain silo'd. Not every website needs a NSFW section.

They may as well bring back Justin.tv for the non-gaming content to better segregate things and allow more refined categories than everything non-gaming being slapped under generic singular categories such as "Just Chatting", "Art", or "Music". It would also free them to make rules specific to the sister site vs. Twitch, even if they were to share the same backend/account system (like it used to when Amazon purchased them originally). They bother to keep registering and keeping the Justin.tv domain for it alive as it is.

Granted I said this same shit back when they originally announced the Just Chatting category, and I still stand by it.

I can understand its an absolute nightmare for you but if it helps, Twitch has always had NSFW stuff, and is not and has never been a safe place to let your kids loose in anymore than Youtube is or even shit like Facebook or Twitter, or the internet as a whole, and has always had sexually questionable content. Twitch also has a Mature Tag and has had one for years before this new ruling has "clarified" their stance and also if they follow their own rules this content will be removed from the recommended and front page (which, apparently isn't rolled through yet but should be) meaning you'd have to go looking for it.

Not even to mention its always been okay to show nudity on Twitch to a certain degree, such as body paint or in some video games, for instance, you would not get banned for the sex scenes in The Witcher 3. Twitch not being a safe space is nothing new, its just blown up right now cause Twitch said "We aren't banning the Ethots, get over it".

What you're doing now as a parent to keep your kids safe from this stuff is exactly what you should keep doing after Twitch's "Didnt really change any rules just clarified them" statement. But I do really think they should ensure this smut is never on the front page or even brought up in general searches, like there should be some sort of parental monitoring or tag you gotta opt-in to the NSFW stuff (Like Imgur used to do).


Edit: Also worth noting that according to Twitchs parental and safety guidelines, nobody under 18 can use twitch without direct parental supervision.
