Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't DQ only huge in Japan? I know it has a following in the US/EU regions too and pretty popular but pales compared to Final Fantasy in those regions and maybe on a global scale too.

You'd be correct, but what you're forgetting is that SE's (Japan as a whole, lets be real) decisions are based on what's best for Japan. If the rest of the world buys something, cool, but they aren't the focus, and never will be. The world as a whole will never be. Something being popular in Japan means Japanese companies will prioritize it, even if it loses them money on the overall picture.
Fuck, look at netcode. Japanese games have had shitty netcode forever because it was never a problem to them, who lives on a small-ass island. It was only when their arcades closed up due to COVID that they suddenly realized that "oh yeah, we kinda do need to make sure connections are stable, now that our own people are struggling with them.
None of this proves that SE dumped more resources into the DQ remake because Japan loves it the most. Its speculative and irrelevant. Its just strange to see them half-assing these re-ports when sales weren't exactly stellar with their shitty mobile bullshit trash-looking ones. We know they have the 2.5D tech on lockdown.
It is what it is, though. These are easy enough to skip, especially when none of these "remakes" have any of the bonus content in other editions of their respective games.
Just saw this on my steam lol
edit: also applies to FFV
This is really bad
Reminds me of Nintendo with Star Fox Zero.
1: Make a new Star Fox game.
2: Saddle it with unneeded gimmicks that detract from the core Star Fox experience.
3: Sales are so-so, with the number one complaint given that the gimmicks detract from the game.
4: See the sales and conclude that "no one wants Star Fox anymore"
5: Shelf the series until a new gimmick can be tacked on years/decades later.
Also see F-Zero; the franchise about crazy high speed death-defying racing that Nintendo has no idea what to do with regarding a gimmick, so they won't make a new one.
I feel like SE is intentionally shitting up these pixel remakes as an excuse to justify some stupid notion that people aren't interested in pixel games or FF 1-6. This is, of course, complete bullshit: if FFVI got the same 2.5D treatment that the DQ3 remake is getting, I'd be all over that like a fly on shit, but I won't pay good money for bad quality.
What the eff, this looks worse than the PSX remake that came out like 17 years ago.
Jesus, that font....

Strangely, everyone I've seen talking about it that has actually played it have been praising it...
They went back and fixed the font in another game, so its probably coming.
Wow it's that easy? I might try them at some point, but 10-12/pop is a bit much
I'll probably pick up FF3 at some point, since it's the only legal way to play the non-remake in english.
Yup. You just make a copy of the jp file (since you need it in the directory to still run) then just rename and override the english one. It's not even technically a mod really as it's using the games own files.
Once I did that I'm going to go ahead and say this is my favorite version of this game I've played and I've been playing it on various consoles and whatnot since the original nes in back in the day. Some people are complaining about screen tearing and such but I don't notice it. One poooooosible drawback is it uses the spellslot system vs mp, but I always kinda liked that system and they added ethers that are cheap that restore one spell slot for each level spell so it's really not an issue.
Which I guess raises the question why they even bothered with a separate English font.
I'll give them absolute credit: the OSTs are fantastic. I'm hearing a little of Soken's bassist in some of the battle tracks, because that dude loves to go off on his tell-tale bass breakdowns, which I appreciate.
Still not a fan of leaving out all of the bonus combat, but these are not Star Fox Zero "set up to fail" games, at least. I'm keeping my Vince McMahon eyebrows up for the next batch and their OSTs. I have a feeling FFV is going to tear it up, audio-wise; to say nothing of the other two excellent OSTs.
I may grab a couple of these on Android only because I'm sitting on like 65 dollars of Google Play Credit from survey rewards that are about to expire, but I am still going to be bitter about the extra content being cut.
