Is the melee/counter a new thing in this game or has it been around? I feel as though I'm probably way underutilizing it but that's partly because having no idea that certain things even can be parried and also because the ones that I try it against attack slower than I expect them to and it ends up being a mistake that I even tried and I should either just gun them down or avoid them.

I'm not sure if Parry is new. I only use it if I need to refill health or missiles, and I don't think everything can be parried.

Somewhat new. I think it's appeared in the 3DS remake of Metroid 2.

And yeah the system can be a bit wonky. I've died a few times trying to parry some mobs since the distance/mob can really have an impact on when to use it.

Idk if accurate, but since I've kept it in mind my success rate against EMMI has gone up. The delay from the start of the QTE to the first yellow flash is the same length as the delay from the first yellow flash to the second.

Got two parries off the second chance event tonight, so I'll take my anecdotes and be happy lol.

And I just learned in the kraid fight some boss attacks can be parried.

Been around since the Metroid 2 remake. Made by the same team as this game.

It shines, you parry. Always go for the shine! Sometimes you gotta also run up to them and give’em the good ol’ Shoryuken.

Man, this last boss is like a Dark Souls fight. Slow progress after many deaths. I really enjoy the game, though.

I got to the EMMI zones that make it REALLY hard to avoid them, and I must say I was getting rather annoyed by it since I kept getting yeeted into the water making parry nearly impossible (or simply a case of git gud).

Really recommend trying to time the second flash based off the delay on the first. Might just be mental games I'm playing with myself, but I've had far more success timing the second flash than I have the first. Just got morph ball bombs, so that's fun.

They've improved the parry mechanic a lot. The running parry is also great and takes the repetitiveness out of it. In Samus Returns, just about every enemy's shine spark triggered the same way, so if you were backtracking or exploring, it was easier to just avoid monsters altogether. Got old pretty fast and it took a lot more shots to kill them the normal way.

It's interesting seeing the difficultly of this game as a turnoff for some, from feedback I've read. I felt the bosses in Samus Returns were mostly a joke, but they definitely made up for it this time. I'm loving it as well as the little speed boost "challenges" for grabbing some of this missile expansions. It's easier than Hollow Knight but still challenging enough to be fun.

    Just beat
    Spoiler: show
Experiment No. Z-57. Fucking intense fight and loved the "shine spark" ride Samus takes while blasting the shit out of the bosses' head. I'm loving the little badass moments they threw in for Samus. The walking charge shot after beating Corpius then the cool pose she does after flipping thru his tail and the speed boost backflip after watching Z-57 fall in the lava.

Any 2D Metroid games going forward MUST be developed by Mercury Steam.

The parry cutscenes in this game are pretty godlike. Heavy agree.

They truly have a labor of love for this franchise that has honestly only been matched by Retro's original Prime teams. 100% behind this for as long as they want, while letting them work on other stuff so they don't get burned out or bored.

Dread is about even with Super in my mind and im only halfway through. Music is on point, gameplay is tight, movement is pretty seamless even if some difficulty using shinespark in tight spaces is frustrating, and the atmosphere + presentation is top notch.

Some of my favorite moments in the game

Samus talking in Chozo, tho she’s still the silent protag, the line was awesome af.

Samus seeing Kraid again and her body language of “not you again, tired of your shit” was so damn well done.

Samus’s eyes thru her visor really show a lot of emotion.

Samus is the queen and I fucking love her so much. This game balances being an absolute badass survivor and hunter with good lore for us old lore nerds.

I hope we get another Metroid soon. Japan fucked up so much back in the SNES days by not supporting Super Metroid. The rest of the world finally has the chance to pick up the slack and show Nintendo that if Japan doesn't love the franchise, the rest of us do.

Honestly, after Dread and its environment I am all for a Metroid x Alien crossover whatever. That would mesh really well and be a fitting inclusion of inspiration meeting result.

I am pretty confident Nintendo wants to go forward with the series. They did some hardcore marketing for this game. That and the ending since...

    Spoiler: show
Whose to say the Metroid DNA can't take over again? Would be fun to see that element be explored in the game's next story.

Honestly, I can't remember the last time I've seen Nintendo market this hard for a game.

Mario's latest didn't get this much, although I imagine that's because Mario will sell regardless of the amount of marketing cash put forward.]

Still, it was a treat to see such a massive splash of cash to get this game in people's minds.

This sounds like the most recent one I've been dealing with. Before going into the EMMI zone ADAM saying "LOL, you're really gonna want to use your cloak on this one!" is such wonderful advice. As banal as it would have sounded, if he said to "go fast" it would have been much better advice. Sometimes the slow and "safe" strategy isn't really that safe when even a novice can stick a few jumps and not need to use advanced tech.

I'm down to 3 blanks on my equipment screen and I don't want this to end. Tons of cleanup to do too, but it's hilarious how the times when I think I'll do just that, the game seals off a direction for me. Oh well. Probably ought to wait til I have almost everything anyway.
