It's a bad move because a better player in Buchnevic went for much less, Blais and a 2nd. Meanwhile Garland is good but he played the softest minutes in the league for phoenix. OEL has an absolute terrible contract and is probably a worse player than Edler right now, who the canucks are letting walk. Garland is also going to get 4-5 million on his new contract so the canucks are better up front no doubt, but the problem has always been keeping pucks out of their net and the D is probably worse than last season. Plus this just screws their cap for another 6 years, when all the contracts they dumped were coming off the books next year. Petey and Hughes both need to be signed this year and that's probably 10 mil and 7 mil respectively. Overall this is a deal that is maybe a slight improvement for next year, but is god awful for every year past that.
