ye it don't seem to have much purpose at that price point. Steam Deck 2 still 2 years off that's a lotta cash for a console already getting kinda long in the tooth.
Steam Machine prices:
512gb without controller $1,049, or $1,128 with controller.
2tb w/o controller $1,349, or $1428 with.
God damn that's a down payment on a car lmao
$1428 for a console is gonna be a hard no from me.
helllllllll nahhhhhhhhhh
It's being reported that the original price point was $750. I also another article saying console prices won't see a price drop until 2028, at the earliest.
Hard no for me, of course, but I wonder how the market will look at it once PS6/Helix are priced.
Seeing those prices I feel so so much better about the Framework desktop I bought at the end of last year as my emulator box "console".
All my hype for their new VR headset pretty much dried up too, I imagine its going to be about as pricey and probably wont be a good Quest 3 replacement.
Seems comparable to a 1k diy pc. Just a shame a 1k build can't buy much these days and the comparisons to consoles is less favorable by cost.
Just hope they can continue to build out their os.

At least with a DIY, you can upgrade any component after the fact. Steam Machine you're stuck with the hardware as it is, besides being able to increase the NVMe/RAM capacity. Its GPU capabilities in anything modern is my main worry.
Maybe it can support eGPUs down the road with its USB-C port on the back? Despite that destroying the whole SFF appeal.
