I'm pretty sure they've tried to develop him, but he apparently kept refusing the shooting coaches they offered and preferred to hire his own brother as his personal shooting coach, rejected appointments with sports psychologists they setup, etc etc. The Sixers are definitely at fault for catering to him way too much, but they tried to improve his game and he refused the help.

Also let's not forget that he cratered FAST. I'm pretty sure he still had like a 40 point game during this last regular season, but something just flipped in his brain and he became so afraid of getting booed at missing free throws that well.... this.

Doc and the players talking shit was very very stupid yes, but it's easy to let emotions come into play when you can singularly point the blame at a supposed star player who you've structured the entire roster in a way to try to cover for his flaws.

letting jimmy walk, offering all that money to horford, and trading for tobias did nothing to 'structure their team to help simmons'

brett brown did nothing with two 50+ win teams, and he ran jimmy out of town for personal reasons, and THEN the org replaced him with doc fucking rivers who did nothing but burn a bridge with their 2nd best player

the whole thing was mismanaged, top to bottom

compare it to now where you have literal WHO?'s up and down the roster. they didn't structure anything to fit him, they just lost all their supporting talent
