Interesing this data narrative is now coming from what I would consider the left, fauci on tv saying that about cases in children, this is what the conspiracy folks been saying all along about over inflated numbers etc. Curious if this is why some countries numbers are higher than others.

If it was 90% of COVID+ admissions were admitted "because of COVID" last winter by whatever admittedly somewhat subjective definition is used, and now it's only 33% as that doctor suggests, that's hugely significant even if the edges on those stats can be a little blurry.

It's not particularly interesting now that it's true - it was always possible but wasn't true before.

I'm gonna dig in further on this data being completely irrelevant other than data further confirming what we know...Omnicron isn't as deadly but it's much more contagious. The 66% of incidental COVID admissions aren't what's causing overcrowding. If someone comes in with AKI, CHF exacerbation, fall, placement, whatever, and COVID is a secondary issue, that's not a problem. They get treated, they move on. They're short stays, billed at observation/less than 2 midnights. Those that are admitted for COVID are spending weeks and months in the hospital. The long covids are what is breaking the healthcare system.

I'm not arguing that COVID isn't causing hospitals to be overwhelmed. I'm stating that the surge in COVID+ people in the (two public Los Angeles) hospitals in this tweet is mostly not patients that are hospitalized because they have COVID-19.

I wonder if this ironically becomes a lesser issue because of all the teachers who got Omicron OVER the break and will thus likely not be reinfected during the actual start of classes

ive learned from the nfl that immunity for omicron lasts about 3 months so those specific teachers would be good till march break
