You say this as a joke, but our county for a very short period of time mandated that all oil filters had to be recycled and reused after every oil change and it killed multiple cars and busses. The mechanics actually tried to stop this policy and it was basically comply or be fired.

That sounds like someone horribly misunderstood what that was supposed to mean. Because, yes, in most states you're required to recycle them. But no, that doesn't mean literally restocking them for use.

LAUSD is looking to mandate the vax for 12+ year old students this semester.

Confirmed

Students age 12 and older who take part in in-person extracurricular programs will have to receive their first vaccine dose by Oct. 3, and their second no later than Oct. 31. All other students aged 12 and up must receive their first dose by Nov. 21, and their second by Dec. 19.

Hope Glendale follows suit.

Boss had an interesting 'oh shit' moment that made him come to Jesus and get a shot.

We work in Pharma. He basically tried to argue that since his wife had antibodies that he had covid at some point and therefore didn't need the shot. It was really odd as he legit said nothing negative about any of the vaccines but didn't see why he needed one specifically (I know...). His other reasoning was we were helping with the Novavax one and he wanted to 'wait to get the one he worked on because it would be cool.'

He was talking to a family member that asked if he was vaccinated and he said no. Said family basically went "ah ha! If you don't trust and you worked on one of them then why should I trust it!" The person caught covid and then almost died from it but did pull through.

After that the bossman realized that whole "lead by example" and basically immediately went and got it.

Work email fully supporting the mandate went out to everyone, references how we've already lost 20ish people to Covid, which isn't a huge number compared to some organizations but some people are bitching about the mandate and it's making me laugh.

I think the mandate applying to the private sector is an overreach and this could potentially set a bad precedent down the line, but for the time being we very much need to start protecting people from their own stupidity.

I worry a bit about this. Articles claim it applies to 100mil people, but we are at 54% vaccination rate overall, kids aren't in the 100mil so let's say 65% in that pop. This would be effectively requiring 35mil people to get the vaccine (assuming some enforcement and no quitting) pushing us up to ~65% nationally.

That seems like a somewhat modest improvement to completely politicize vaccination over while throwing so much red meat at the right's pundits that they may actually choke.

It isn't like it will be enough to stop delta and subsequently change behavior.

At this point I'm convinced the propaganda is 100% rooted in keeping the pandemic going through the midterms so the gop has a good club to beat the dems over the head with. That and pharmaceutical enties invested in peddling shitty expensive treatments to a virus we have a vaccine for.
