You don't get to bash dems for catering to oil companies or whatever and stan this.
Bitcoin alone (the study I saw wasn't clear on if they meant all cryptocurrency and were using Bitcoin as a generic term or if they only measured Bitcoin) uses more electricity than Norway. It uses more than and Bangladesh and Switzerland combined. It uses over ten times more electricity than it takes to run Google and Facebook globally, combined. It is only slightly behind the total combined electricity consumption of every data center on Earth. It uses roughly a third of the electricity as the nation of Germany.
At 143 TWh of electricity, Bitcoin accounts for .65% of all global energy consumption. If Bitcoin WERE a country, it would be the 27th (out of 195) largest energy consumer. So the countries below it may be (except for those explicitly named here) "nameless," but there are also 168 of them.

Again, I didn't catch if the study was delineating between Bitcoin and other cryptos or using the term generically.

Please stop using the word "stan". You aren't singing an Eminem song, and it is stupid as fuck.
At face value you could sit here and compare and number of random things in power usage to something else. Its a piece of the picture and not the big indictment of "Bitcoin is bad because..." That people are operating off of.
Here, I lazily Googled and barely skimmed this because I know BTC has a higher usage of renewables or inactive locations being brought back online than other industries. https://www.google.com/amp/s/bitcoin...mpare-industry
Even then, only part of the picture.
Ah yes bitcoin magazine truly an unbiased news source on the subject.

What is bitcoin doing for the world other then being useless strings of numbers traded for money? Saying other industries use the same if not more is such a shitty talking point when those industries are actually producing goods and services that people actually use.

It doesn't matter to me if you understand or like Bitcoin.
Back in 2015/16 and onwards into 2020 I talked mad shit about BTC being useless. It was my ignorance and bias fueling my ardent stance against all of crypto. I was wrong, but it takes time to come around and BTC has a lot of maturing to do still.
One can understand bitcoin and still find no practical usage for it.

Bitcoin is good for black market sales of untraced currency, kinda like black market sales of FFXI RMT goods and services like XP bots.
Someone mentioned the XI section and his garbage, and I figured he was posting some of his typical r-dation. I went to see what it was, and despite being prepared for an absolute circus act, I was still completely bamboozled by what I saw.
