The deal the Braves got Olson for is such a steal.

I'm sad about Freeman not staying in ATL. Sucks to see your franchise guy leave, but realistically, business is business. Olson's 5 years younger, gonna be much cheaper for longer.. (like they offered Freddie 5/140 iirc and he wanted a 6th year + more money) -- so it is what it is. I was pretty meh about getting Olson initially, but then today when I saw the contract.. well, n/m then, that's great. Best case scenario. AA stay being a wizard.

Well they'll only be paying half of that since he's not getting paid for the games at home or in Toronto

I know he actually has a valid reason to not get the vaccine and was reportedly told by actual doctors to not get it, but still an interesting call to resign him given the mandate.

Judge rules Major League Baseball violated wage law for minor leaguers

A federal judge ruled that minor leaguers are year-round employees who work during training time and found Major League Baseball violated Arizona state minimum wage law and is liable for triple damages.

U.S. District Judge Joseph C. Spero in San Francisco also ruled MLB did not comply with California wage statement requirements, awarding $1,882,650 in penalties.

Spero unsealed a 181-page ruling Tuesday night in a lawsuit filed eight years ago. He ruled minor leaguers should be paid for travel time to road games in the California League and to practice in Arizona and Florida.

"These are not students who have enrolled in a vocational school with the understanding that they would perform services, without compensation, as part of the practical training necessary to compete the training and obtain a license," Spero wrote.

In rejecting many of MLB's motions for summary judgments, Spero allowed those claims to proceed to a trial scheduled for June 1.

He ruled for the players under Arizona state law, leaving only the amount of damages to be determined.

"For decades, minor league players have worked long hours year-round in exchange for poverty-level wages," the steering committee of Advocates for Minor Leaguers said in a statement. "Working as a professional baseball player requires far more than just playing baseball games. It also requires hours of year-round training, practice, and preparation, for which we have never been properly compensated.

I liked Kris Bryant, but not at those years/dollars. Good for him though.

Fuck MLB. This has been a long time coming for minor league players.

Dodgers TV deal gives them infinite money, and unlike the Yankees they're not afraid to keep using it

Edit : actually they make more than twice as much on their TV deal then the Yankees do, almost 240 mil per year

What's funny is the Braves offered him 5/150 and $30mil AAV, while the Dodgers did 6/162 and 27 AAV, so.. he actually took a bit of a cut. He made out with less than Kris Bryant even. I think his agent overplayed his hand a bit so he got less than he was trying to get outta ATL. I'm happy with the deals Atlanta made overall. Will miss Freddie, but at the end of the day, I'm fans of the Braves, not the Freemans.

Hel end up with far less because it's California as well. His agent played him, but he'll probably get plenty of sponsorship money to offset it anyway now that he's a fanboi in blue

I go back to if Freeman REALLY wanted to stay in Atlanta that badly, the 6th year should not have mattered because he was likely to get that as a retirement contract. Would it have been another $20m/1yr deal...no. But he could have easily taken the 5, stayed a legend embraced by the market with more money than his family knows what to do with, and be happy with a sunset 1yr/4-5M deal for his final season.

Rolled high, and came up short. I know he will enjoy LA, but the talk kind of rings hollow to me of him wanting to be a lifer.

I mean haven't they been for years now?

Going into the last like 4 seasons it's always "this is the most loaded MLB roster we've ever seen" and they just keep adding more.

Meanwhile the Braves roster is like "Yeah, and?" Lol

They're really strong top to bottom too, and not signing Freeman allowed them to bring in more people.

Yeah, I think Freeman really just wanted outta the ATL. He could've easily stayed for the 5/150 deal. It was never about the money/contract at that point, just that he wanted to go back home to LA. So more power to him. I'm not upset at all. I get the decision, and I hope he has a good rest of his career.

I do, however, hope ATL sees em in the playoffs again and beats them again. that'd be lovely.
