    OT should be "play the whole period, but if it's tied at the end, whoever scored first wins". Only ties are for 0-0 OTs.

    No, that will just increase injuries. They should just play from the X yardline, no field goals allowed. Go for 2 if you score and must go for it on 4th. Something like that which is fair to both teams and should end the game quicker.
