Been awhile since my last playthrough, but wasn’t Wutai optional anyways? I’m drawing a blank at going there for story reasons.

Wutai and Yuffie were both entirely optional ye
tho def one of the game's highpoints was her grabbing all your materia and dipping the second you got there leaving Cloud like uhhh...?
Yeah, it was optional, but such an iconic section I assume just like characters they will make it canon now.
I kinda still prefer to Rock up and beat Yuffie’s dad into the ground to learn an LB I never use. But I suppose if they add lore reasons for going I can grudgingly endure.

Damn they made that quick lol
Spoilered because it looks huge on mobile
Spoiler: show
Not sure if it was mentioned yet:
FF7R save file gets you Leviathan summon materia
FF7 Episode Intermission save file gets you Ramuh summon materia
Oh yeah 100%. If Yuffie is not optional in Rebirth, Square making Integrade, and the Remake mentioning Wutai a lot, I can't imagine it being an optional thing. Also it's a great opportunity for more Turk characterization moments.
One little quirk I just thought of in case people in this thread didn't know: a story point in Dirge of Cerberus was that Yuffie & Vincent were helping evacuate Midgar during the climax of Final Fantasy VII. This was basically plothole gravel on why Vincent & Yuffie weren't in the final cinematic for Final Fantasy VII.
I could be misremembering, but I thought Advent Children showed Vincent and Yuffie at the battle against Sephiroth in the openuing recap ?
Yuffie was uh..
Using Kage Bunshin.
Believe it.
You're not misremembering, @1:35-1:50 heavily implies they're all in the crater.
But to be totally pedantic: it's narrative recap from Marlene. Story framing, not actual combat footage. The characters strike poses in her mind based on the account she was given when the party returned, and she's passing on the tale to the viewer. To be even more blunt, it's Square using the prologue to throw nostalgia at the starved fanbois who fell in love 8 years prior, to hype the rest of the film.
But yada fucking yada. Whether it was SE's intent to imply new superseding canon in 2005 is totally moot. If Remake taught us anything, it's the current team's willingness (or prerogative) to discard canon (and, often, freedom of choice) and reimagine scenes and roles in new contexts. I'm with the rest of y'all -- the very fact both characters were shown in this trailer means they're going to be unskippable in Rebirth. Just like taking away the mechanic of who Don Corneo chooses, and likely who's on the forthcoming Gold Saucer date, Rebirth is going to be more on-rails than FF7 because this team likes filling every nook and cranny of the original content with silly new ideas. Undoubtedly Wutai will be a huge opportunity for them to do more of that.
man i forgot how bad Advent Children was
Hey man it was a visual feast.
And I was a teenager so it was still enjoyable.
Spirits within was a visual feast, fuck the haters

So here's what saved Advent Children for me that Spirits Within lacked.
Characters I gave a shit about.
We all felt moved and deeply invested in Denzel's backstory.
